The goal of this challenge is to collect all of the RB era passenger sets *with boxes.* This INCLUDES the locomotives.
You do not have to collect chrome or different versions. Good Luck!
Also, I myself have not done this yet, but hope to soon
Sets to Collect:

Royal Blue
Southern
Union Pacific
Candian Pacific
New Haven
Penn Central
Pennsylvania
D&RG
ACL
Burlington

What a coincidence that this post appeared today. I was logging on to reach out to any leads on getting a couple of pieces I am still on the hunt for to complete a wall display of tyco passenger trains I am building out to compliment my Slice of Woodbury walls. I started a few months ago to finish up what I thought I needed to fill the space I plan to build out. Each shelf will have an F9 A&B Unit, Combine, 2 Coaches, and Observation. That size consist will fit perfectly. My issue of missing pieces were that many sets only had one coach, so I have to backfill a couple of open spots.

My complete trains (all Red Boxed except Amtrak) are:
ACL
New Haven
Amtrak (substitute F9A Dummy since no B Unit)
B&O non-chrome
B&O Chrome
Pennsylvania
Burlington
Santa Fe non-chrome

My nearly complete trains are:

Union Pacific - need one coach
CN - Need one coach and a F9 B Unit ( I know they are out there somewhere)
Penn Central - Need one Coach

Anyone with a lead or willingness to sell any of the items on my "still need" list, please PM me. I get on here once a week or so, so I will get back to you.

I wouldn't mind a SF Chrome set to round out the display. I have room for up to 14 shelves if I want to. I plan on doing one shelf as a custom paint job of C&O, using a set of Tyco F9 A & B Units with the Blue Roof as my starting point, using some of the extra Tyco passenger cars I amassed when collecting the above. Time has been in short supply for me this year with work, so maybe that project is still a couple months off I'm guessing. Can't do the wall build out until summer either.

I also will eventually try to finish of the roadnames such as Canadian Pacific and DRG. The Southern Crescent Ltd (chrome and non chrome) is probably years off. Unless I hit Powerball I suppose.

Interesting post. I will be curious to see how much the members have accumulated of the tyco passenger line.

Scott

I've always kind of wondered how many other people are doing this. Some of the Tyco sets sell pretty high on ebay so there have to be at least a few. The unfortunate thing about Tyco streamliners is that the more you collect, the more you realize just how many variations are out there.

I started collecting the Tyco streamliners years ago. At last count my collection was over 60 individual cars, but that was several years ago. I prefer my cars without boxes. Boxes take up space and drive the price up unnecessarily.

Here's a picture from several years ago; a few sets I've acquired since then are absent from the photo.

Also, regarding the above list, Tyco never made a VIA set. Mantua made a VIA set in the 80's and Tyco had a VIA freight set (which is odd), but there was never a Tyco VIA streamliner.

I'd say Amtrak, SF, and B&O are the easiest to find.
Next would probably be Pennsylvania, Penn Central, and Burlington
Rarer ones would be CP, CN, NH, DR&G, and ACL
The hardest ones would have to be Southern and union pacific

The CN sets are more common than Amtrak up here in Canada. I've still had no luck finding a complete CP set. CP and Southern are the two I'm missing.

A few months behind schedule on getting my wall of passenger trains up. Got everything out to see what needed couplers, etc. Get everything cleaned up, as once I start building it will go quick.
Seems I am still missing one piece though. Need to fill that gap before continuing my search for other sets.
Anyone have an extra for sale/trade? I have a nice UP Combine and Observation that are just missing a coupler or two. But shells are excellent.

I'd love to collect them all (plus multiples of coaches if possible), and the sets sold under the Mantua brand (plus make resin clones of the dome car parts), but I don't know about this challenge simply due to the boxes stipulation. Tracking the boxes down either separately or with the car is added pain, and a lot of Tyco's insulation trays for single units take up excess space front and back of the car or loco.

I've never seen the UP set come up anywhere. I'd like to get that one. This one seems like a tough challenge since there are so many pieces. At least with that Alco thing I done there where only 18 (I think) roadnames.

The UP set is the one I want most too, either red-box built-ups or blue-box kits. I like the UP and its armor yellow paint scheme so I want to run UP streamliners, and it would be good to have Tyco UP cars since they'd match my Tyco E7.

They are definitely cool. I want them just because how rare they are. I need to pick up the UP E7 myself. Currently I only have the Milwaukee one.
