My collection of my Life-Like lighted billboards. There's also a few Tyco and a pack of AHM. Had a few on my 1970s layout and the AHM bronze was one of them. Not impressive but had to have them. Love the Life-Like and Tyco ones...

My AOTW is... what is this??? Because I really wish I knew. It's a working coal conveyor and has no brand markings I can find. Definitely not a Tyco.

Here's the billboards from the Campbell's Soup set by Life-Like. The yellow cast on the first one is from the camera...

Yes it was, and with a working motor too. A working, incredibly naff motor with fiber end plates and shafts running directly in them. And a very weak magnet which I replaced with a stack of neodymium magnets, after which it works, but is quite noisy. It has a two-stage worm gear reduction.

Sounds to me like the Clementine conveyor's hand crank would be better!

Tyco's engineers would agree with you, and it is certainly reliable. However, I kind of wanted the magic of remote control for this gravel pit, and had previously attempted to motorize a Clementine with comically dire results (it's more a coal launcher than a loader now). After that, I had consigned the pit to the Pit and replaced the gravel loader with a Crane Pipe Loader, figuring on turning the pit into a scrapyard. Finding this little gem, though, has gotten me back to my original plan.
What I really like about it is the smaller size. The Clementine is just a little bit big and bulky for this area on my layout.

Perhaps mechanical remote control would suit your needs. It could be done with some linked pulleys so that you could have the crank at the control panel.

I had actually rigged something like that up for the pipe loader, using some Erector Set pieces. The same probably could be done for the gold mine, though the size would still be an issue.

I found it!
While searching 1959 MR for info on my Katsumi B18 4-6-0 (which I didn't find), I found an ad for this coal loader!
It's an Authenticast, made by Comet Metal Products. Not metal, of course, but not all their items were (observe the "unbreakable plastic trestle set" in the ad). Clearly the same unit, however, with a few noncritical parts missing.
