For this week I would like to show off the very first HO scale building I ever constructed, an "Aunt Milles House" kit from AHM. I was in the third grade at the time and it became my favorite structure on my layout. Recently I rediscovered this building while cleaning out a closet at my parent's home. Needless to say it was dusty and dinged up and not exactly assembled with much skill.
I decided to resurrect this building with a complete rebuild. After gently disassembling the original building, I replaced the damaged and missing components with parts from a new kit and finished it off with a new paint job. (The color is Penn Central Jade Green).

The rebuilt house is now installed on my latest HO scale layout.

And it looks great. Restoring older stuff is so much more rewarding than buying new.

The building is nicely done, but the real treat is the use of detail parts: the mailbox, mower, cat, woman sweeping, etc.

I love that you still have your first house! Great tribute to your childhood.
My first house was.....Aunt Millie's house also! And I still have it also. I remember it on my layout as a child, next to 'Ma's Place.' I made a clothesline with paper clothes running from the back to a pole.
As good as your 'adult' layouts get, I still think the ones from childhood are the most special.
Thanks for posting this. It brought back memories.

My BOTW is a Bachmann Union Pacific caboose turned into a mobile home, basically.

Hmm... That looks like it shares parts with Srenchin's kit.

I like that color Strenchin. That caboose looks like my home, after I get done paying city taxes.

I should be paying my taxes, but after drifting into an antique shop I had to have these for $24 for my 1860's 3.5 x 3.5 layout. I had virtually nothing to do with building them, I'm not that good. Author unknown. Hopefully I can glue the chimney back on without lousing it up. Please see "Layouts- constructions and operations" as I have a few questions...
By the way, the antique shop has several other pieces of this nature, in an Old West theme, by the same modeler at similar prices: a "Kang's Saloon", a rather nice rooming house (a bit on the large side), a depot, and assorted Old West shacks and shanties. Let me know if interested and I will arrange to obtain and ship them for you. They are delicate, so I will have to buy peanuts and a larger box, so that I would have to ask for those costs, in addition to shipping, as well as the price of the structure. PM me if interested.

My botw this week is a Suydam Wells Fargo station. It has been the simplest kit yet, but had to make some modifications here and there.

Now to get the stagecoach assembled and we can start getting some new blood in here.

That sign directly on the siding is especially nice. How was it applied?

He didn't. The sign is not directly on the siding, it's a separate piece. And looking at an unbuilt kit, the piece comes with the sign already painted or tampographed onto it.

Actually, the sign was a separate piece that I had to trim and then attach to the front of the buildling. I use Gorilla Gel Super glue to assemble my buildings as they are wood/cardboard and plastic.

Now that I look more closely, the grooves between the boards on the sign don't all match up with the grooves between the boards on the siding. I wasn't looking at it right.

Well it sure fooled me. I thought someone had hand painted the thing right onto the siding. Yes, with a brush.
