Last weekend, I purchased an unbuilt Pullman Palace sleeping car kit produced by Roundhouse from my LHS, and I have some questions. First off, I plan on giving it an interior so I would like to know which floorplan goes with this model (I'm trying to find it on Google even as I type this, but finding specific stuff on Google can be a mess). Second, there are two optional pieces included, a pair of rectangular plates with holes in them. The instructions say that they're optional, but don't say what they're for if one does elect to use them. Can anyone shed some light?

Well out there is also a Observation car, Combine, and dinning car in the same Pullman Palace line. without a photo of this square item a guess is a coupler box cover. frank

You must have missed the part where I said the instructions say they're optional parts, then.
At any rate, whatever these are, they're far too big to be coupler box covers:

For the correct floor plan, you would need to know information specific to the car itself - i.e. the railroad, car name/number, the section/room configuration, perhaps specific timeframe in service, to name just a few. I searched Google as well and found numerous floorplans but as you have already seen they vary widely. Was there any more info included with the kit besides "sleeping car"?
As for the optional parts pictured, I'll just say the first thing that popped in my head was that they look like some sort of truck bolster. Would they be the right size for that? having never assembled a Pullman Palace car kit I can only guess.

Well, there was no specific information like roadname or carname since this was the undecorated version. But it's not exactly a fancy kit with a bunch of different window configurations you could build the sides in. The Roundhouse "Pullman Palace" kits are 79' heavyweights with vestibuled ends, and most of the windows are two squares with an arch over them. The sleeper has nine of these windows down one side, and eight on the other, with either two oval windows or two smaller arch-topped windows in the middle on that side. It has two oval windows on either side at one end, and a single oval window on either side at the other end. Does that narrow down the possibilities?
I had thought that the plates might be truck bolsters too, but I couldn't be sure. They're big enough for it.

They are bolsters. I hope I got the them right . They fasten (glue) to the floor where the tracks will mount, giving the trucks something to ride on. Maybe think about getting a few others first. There are 4 or 5 different cars. It is easier to build, detail. and paint a group of cars them 4 or 5 single cars at different times. frank

Thanks for the confirmation. Which way are they supposed to be oriented when glued on?

They mount laterally, the flat side to the base of the car. All bolsters are oriented that way. Google 'bolsters', you'll see plenty of examples there.
