can you tell me what these trains are and what (if anything) a collector might be willing to offer for them?

That Chessie steam engine is a real popular engine on Ebay, nice ones sell for $40-50. IHC also did a Chessie Steam engine 4-6-2, which I have. Haven't found a Tyco version I could afford yet. :) The rest of your train collection is pretty common, but the engine is definitely worth holding on to, and finding the front cowcatcher and steam chests for.

Unfortunately, the cab roof is also cracked... The chances of finding the factory painted original Chessie cab roof and a pilot deck needed to complete this engine are slim to none. Of all the engines I have parted out on eBay over the past 10 years, (over 200 I am sure of) I have only ever had one Chessie and it was missing the pilot as well. They just do not come up often, but when they do, I can assure you, you will pay $20-$40 for the pilot alone as I am positive someone else out there will be looking for one as well. By the time you collect the needed parts to make this engine whole, you will have far surpassed the engine's value as a complete engine. Buying the parts individually, you will be lucky if you spend less than $40, but more likely close to $50.

As the lot sits, if listed on eBay, I would estimate you would receive $28-$35 for the entire lot, depending on the day and time it ends.

The cab roof can be carefully glued, I prefer the Faller brand in the blue/white bottle. Has a metal needle tip so a very thin line can be put on. Sets up fairly fast as well Just sit and old it together till it sets up. I would haunt both ebay and the local train shows for a junker engine to rob the pilot/cowcatcher off of. Those are good runners, easily upgraded to a can type motor as well. Not a high doller set but worth fixing up. I know my wife would love to have the Chessie engine, she has most every other Tyco/Mantua Chessie engine but this one. Mike
Still NT's, I have Aspergers.
