I'm looking for a Tyco train set called "The Diesel Flyer" from the early 1970's. Would like a complete used set or even a sealed set. I have a photo of the complete brown box train set that I can send you if you contact me (couldn't see how to upload a photo here).
Thanks! 909 608-2501 cyproductions@earthlink.net

Tyco appears to have listed "The Diesel Flyer" train set in the late 60's and 70's meaning Red Box and Brown Box versions would have been available, although based on catalogs the contents appear virtually identical. Boxed sets can be difficult to track down, especially when you're looking for a specific one. There's actually one on ebay right now and would appear there have been two other sets listed in the last month. Probably your best bet. Happy hunting!

DaCheez, Thank you for the ebay link but the train set is not for sale, its a Wanted Ad. The description says "looking for this train set" and "there is nothing for sale in this auction". Thanks again for your help and I'll keep looking!

Huh...look at that. I didn't bother looking at the description. Still, I see two completed auctions in about the last month so they're out there.

It would be simple enough, I would surmise, to recreate the set as most of the items look fairly common, though confess I have not seen a Tyco F7 in blue Santa Fe livery. Or, do you want the original tamale, as it were?
The main thing with uploading photos is to click on the camera, click browse, and then upload the file accordingly. Dashes and whatnot will foul your attempts.
I also learned the hard way that before uploading the picture to the Forum, one must reduce the size, I do this by clicking on "paint", then resize, and reduce the image to 1,000 pixels in latitude.
Hope you get it. Keep us posted.
And the next day a young man brings in that same Tyco Santa Fe. Sorry for bad image, my pawn shop special is on its last legs.

Thanks for your reply Chops124 I could put the set together like you mentioned as all the cars are pretty common but I want the box too. Looking for a complete boxed set. That is the correct engine too by the way that you posted the picture of.
You mentioned to post pictures here to click on the camera but I do not see a camera or camera icon anywhere on here. Either I am blind or it just doesen't show up on my end. Can you point me in the right direction as to where it is? I would like to post a photo of the complete Diesel Flyer set. Thanks!

That is pretty cool. Back in the Day that would have made a kid like me do flips (now a days it's all video games and social media).
Which brings to mind why I like this Forum so much. You and I can have this conversation. Would a classic set like this ever grace the pages of one of the model railroad glossies?? Not on your life.
I will keep an eye out. I know an antique dealer (Tinplate Henry) and he knows I am a Tycohead. If anything turns up I'll let you know. His prices are pretty rock bottom.

Yes, it was a great set when I was a kid and I loved it! Had hours and hours and years of fun with it. Its still a great set in fact . The only difference was my set came with 3 tractors on the flatbed car instead of the 3 culvert pipes. I'm so glad I got the tractors too cause they are way cooler looking and more fun to play with than the 3 pipes. Thanks a lot for keeping an eye out for me!
Also, while your keeping an eye open i'm also looking for the 70's Tyco train box that had a photo of 3 trains on it at the top. It was their standard box they used for several different train sets so they didn't have to make separate boxes for each train. I want just the box but will buy any partial or complete set to get the box. Here is a photo of that box

Way cool, Diesel Flyer, I live for that kind of passion. I will definitely keep my radar up if I come across any of these boxes or sets, partial or full. I like the tractors more, also.
