Any thoughts how to get a DCC decoder into this Hornby 0-4-0? I am not a machinist.
Perhaps I'd better just leave it alone and run it as analog?

Looks like plenty of room in the cab for it. Will it look good with wires and a decoder showing through the cab? No, not really, but if that's the only space you have...Many of these older engines were never designed for add-on electronics, so you have to get creative, or sometimes just let them live as analog-only loco's. Some are just too hard to convert.

Will there always be a train coupled on? If so, the decoder could live in the first car the way it is in the tender of non-tank engines.

An N scale decoder will do the trick

You might also be able to find room for a chip in one of her water tanks.

Would the decoder chip be called a "decoder crisp" in England?

Maybe they should be called "decoder fries" in the U.S.

You guys make me smile. Truth be told the first time I ever tried to install
a decoder crisp, or fry, was following a MR article on installing a chip into
a dual motored Bachmann 44 ton switcher. I got the grounds crossed,
and it indeed quickly became a fry, or a crisp. Trashed that model fast
it did.
