So, I checked out this lady's inventory. Her late husband like to buy a lot of stuff, and a lot of it he never took out of the box. There is a lot of stuff there, but I doubt it would fetch anything like the $50,000, and North, she was was claiming. Still, it was an impressive collection. There is so much stuff there that I mostly took photos of groups of stuff. She would like to sell it by the lot, and I think there is some room for negotiation there. Reach her direct at dianaj@elp.rr.com.

Is she pricing or looking for offers? Is there a any kind of list describing what is there? Possibly her husband kept an inventory of some sort? Not only would it help potential buyers but also would help her quite a bit - unless she is just going to sell locally.

To answer your first question: both. To answer your second question, no. I offered to have our club sell it on ebay, piece, by piece, for a 10% commission, and feel that this could take a year or more to get through the balance of it. There was so much tonnage that I just took these panning shots to provide some idea. One could enlarge the picture to read the contents better. She really doesn't seem to know what stuff is worth, I picked off an E60 for $25, but she wants way too much for some items and way to little for others.
To me, how much any of this is worth is an open question. If you really want an articulated Arkansas Central Doodle Bug, you'll pay up. How much do people cough up for brass these days when photo real DCC equipped units with sound and smoke retail for the same, or less?

Thanks Chops - and yes I understand. Unless someone puts a lot of work into cataloging everything that is there, it's hard to sell to buyers that aren't on the scene to eyeball it. The idea of your club selling it all on ebay for a 10% commission would probably be here best deal, but it does take time.

Shoot her an email, you might get a half decent price. I found that she wanted to sell a number of pieces at retail. Clearly, that won't work, as we know we are looking for good deals and if we want to pay retail we will go to a supplier.
I'd guess that DD40X works, just because so much of the locomotive stock looked like it was never used (no wear patterns on the treads). Offer her $25 and maybe you can get it.
Henry, henry14a@yahoo.com is an antique dealer and he understands this. He has a bevy of really fine Proto 2000 Union Pacific units, some expertly weathered, and they are well discounted. Unfortunately, he had to go home before I could photograph his stock.

It's funny you should mention the articulated doodlebug... that actually *is* something I really want. Totally spacing right now on who made that model but IIRC it's either a Santa Fe or Rock Island prototype under that green paint. Any idea if she had put a price on that thing? Please don't say it was one of the off-the-wall-high prices...
Also, has anyone else spotted in the 7th picture... the Walthers tongue in cheek kits? The impact test car, the Jail Box, and the literal beer can tanker! I seem to recall someone was looking for a Jailbox around here

I drooled over that articulated Doodlebug myself. I think she'd let it go for $40. It appears rather old, but the detail looked pretty good. The motor and drive is some clunky looking thing in the fashion of a tower motor. Shoot her an email and see if you can bag that cookie. It took considerable self restraint not to buy it, myself. I think MR did a photo shoot on that prototype RR, doodlebug and all, back in the 1960's.

Get a hold of her Ben and see if you can get that DD40. I bought one early on and realized it wasn't quite what my layout was gonna be. I traded it with a fella on ebay... I love them though!
