Today is / was Back To The Future Day

I ask this question for in the third film Knuckle Couplers (Lima) are shown

My question and I have asked this to museums ETC AND reminded of it seeing it elsewhere on line

When was The Knuckle Coupler invented?

For in the 19th century Latch couples were used until the invention of the hand

It was the Janney knuckle coupler, invented in 1868.
It took another 20 years for them to really catch on....

You can gander as to when the Westinghouse brakes were patened... and then finally required to be used on ALL trains... It wasn't until well after 1900!
