Hi everybody I'm hoping there's an expert here who can tell me about these passenger cars I came across. I bought the cars at yard sale from a guy who had a very nice collection. His girlfriend soon to be wife convinced him to let loose a few things. Well I bought a lot of trains, cars and rails from him. Anyway I began to research the passenger cars and couldn't find anything. I found similar ones but without interior lights. There are three passenger cars #950 the tail end, #3105, and #3105 passenger cars. They all light up on the tracks. I'm just wondering if these go on the shelf or on the track. #950 is inscribed "NO. 33368 MADE BY TYCO IN HONG KONG". Both #3105 is inscribed "NO. 33367 MADE BY TYCO IN HONG KONG". If anyone knows about the year of production, number of cars made, really anything would be helpful. thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome,
I can't tell you any production numbers, I don't think there is anyone that can. However you have a good find here.
These cars were first made in 1966 and sold only in a full train set dring 1966 and 1967. The set's name was the Travelaire and catalogued as T6624C. Pictured in the catalog is the Santa Fe roadname. Personally I would have pictured this Canadian National set as it is quite handsome and there is too much Santa Fe pictured throughout the years.
These passenger cars were not sold individually during in 66 and 67..
In 1968 the cars were still available in another set called the Inter-City. The Inter-City was the 3 same passenger cars, an F9A but they removed the B unit diesel as compared to the Travelaire. The inter-City set was available for 4 years, ending in 1971. Set number T6705C.

Starting in 1968 these cars were available for individual sale in either factory built or kit form. I am unsure of how many years but my guess is 2 years.

I believe these cars are quite hard to find especially in real good condition. Although they made catalog appearances for several years I find them relatively much harder to find than other items who've glammed the tyco catalogs even less.

That's a great find! Your set looks to be in nice condition. NYC already hammered out the bulk of the information available on them. In terms of rarity, I think they're more common in Canada than in the US, but still difficult to find.
Perhaps now you have something to run under the Christmas tree this year!
