Had a nice ride on the "1880 Train" in Hill City, South Dakota the other day. It's not really an 1880 locomotive, but it's a pretty fine ride. And they have a great collection of older equipment. I'll post some photos when I get them off my wife's iPad. In the meantime . . .

I think that locomotive and "caboose" advertisement will hold us for awhile!

I see a purse, a trunk and a hat box in that luggage, but not an I-Pad.

Did you get to chase and photograph at all? The railroad is in a nice setting for photography from the outside of the train as well.

Among the equipment, I enjoyed seeing the trucks with all the components that are involved. This particular set surprised my novice self with wooden components. And the wooden walkway and iron pipe hand rail on this vintage tank car provide good reference for detail . . . as with the other older cars . . . even a wood sided car with a steel roof and steel ends . . . . From the view of a modeler, it was interesting to see the placement and construction of the details like the grab irons and such. I dug this custom chore car with a cabin for tools or something at the far end and a large hopper area for whatever. I probably should have asked permission to walk around and photograph it better. I've got more car photos, if anyone is interested. This last photo gives an idea of the beauty of the place.

the track the steam loco display is sitting on was the CB&Q/BN main to Deadwood
When I was there years ago they had a 3rd rail for their old 3 foot gauge that ended at Oblivion
Plus track ended at Keystone Jct a mile from Keystone cause of a flood in 1975 I think
BN had to literally truck out 2 boxcars stranded at Keystone after the flood took out the last mile to Keystone
The tracks used to go across the highway & had displays but it looks like BHC moved it all to Hill City

Very colorful photos Barry. I forgot about this thread.
Saw some nice videos of this railroad on the internet.

Not my videos. This is a wonderful operation they have in the Dakotas.
Has anyone contacted Barry? He may be unaware that we are back.
I hope he is fine and just unaware of this forum being back on line.
