Got this in a mixed lot Ebay win sometime back for about $8 including shipping. When I got it, it appeared to be near mint with only a bit of tread wear and its original boxes. The funnel and smoke oil tube are still in the box. When I tried to fire it up, it wouldn't even spark. Figuring it got toasted in the past, I shelved it for about 6 weeks.
Last night 2 things happened. One, I was shamed into doing something about it when I saw a Youtube video that had one walking around a loop of track and two, I also saw the original TV commercial on Youtube as well.

Look for the derailed driver in the runby towards the end...only Tyco, man, only Tyco...[:D]
That did it, I had to make it run and it turned out to be a good deal less painful than I thought. The motor in the tender came apart rather easily to reveal the gnarliest knot of cat hair around each spur gear I had ever seen to this point. A little WD40, a bit of scrubbing, a couple drops of oil and now I can show my face to the Tyco crowd again. Even cooler with the matching 'boose...

OK here's a decent question. When did the Chatanooga change from a 2-8-0 to an 0-8-0. The Royal Blue that Brian got and the Chatanooga I have left are both 2-8-0's

Looks like between 1978-82 >>> http://tycotrain.tripod.com/steamengines/id15.html
I'd like to know if I could retrofit a 2-8-0 pilot truck to it as there is certainly room for it.

OK That was a test and I flunked. I always should look there first, guess I'll never learn. I beleive the loco's are basically the same configuration but I have never looked under the nose to see how the trucks are attached. All the elec. pickups are in the tendre or the steel wheels of the loco if I remember correctly. I sent some parts to Hypoponera and it contained pieces for a Chat. maybe he could look and answer your question better.

| Even if I can't, that's OK...this and my GG1 are classic, near mint examples of Tyco's finest work[Oops!] [;)]

Did you ever notice that the black and tuscan Pennsy GG-1's have the same number on them? I just noticed that myself. There are some pics a little further down in this part of the forum.
