Though I'm not finding anything on Kato's website, it has been reported that Model Railroad News in their May edition has release info on a new run of SD-40-2 models from Kato.
This was posted late yesterday over on the Atlas Forum...
Per the May 2007 issue of Model Railroad News, Kato has made their long awaited HO scale announcement: the SD40-2. Termed "mid- production", these have ditch lights that can be set for either alternating, or steady in DC mode. They also state that there is a speaker opening for sound installation. Looks like the SD38-2 drive has migrated to the 40-2. Only two roadnames have been announced, that being BN in the white face scheme, and CN. Only one road number each, and MSRP is $179. Per our forum overlords, this was a published ad, and is now fair game for discussion.
The note at the end regarding being this announcement being "fair game for discussion" has to do with a recent rule enforcement by the Atlas folks...no discussion of coming products unless they are in print somewhere.
No such rule here at the TYCO Forum...[:D]

Here's the exact info on the coming Kato Mid-Production example SD-40-2 models...
#37-6601 Burlington Northern (white face) #6770
#37-6603 Canadian National (red, black and white) #6256
The models will retail for $179 each and will feature operating ditch lights, but they do not appear to be DCC and/or sound equipped...but do have an 8-pin socket to accept a DCC install.
The ad announcing this run, in the May Model Railroad News magazine, includes a website address...

but I only get an error and not found message when trying it...to date I think the only solid info on this release is in this magazine ad.
