I found this on a Yahoo train group I'm on:
Just received this notice from W.K. Walthers - "Please note: as of June 29th 2015 Weaver Models, being Quality Craft (610) and Scalecoat Paint (640) will be closed and out of business. They still have some paint colors available and we will stock what we can. Advise your customers to assess their needs and place orders ASAP."

This is just a result of the graying of the hobby. My understanding is that the owner wants to retire and couldn't find anyone to buy the business. He does a good business, he is just ready to retire. I can definitely appreciate that and don't blame him one bit. Conversely, I just think that companies like Testors don't need to pull the crap that they did, that is just plain greed and not caring about their customers. Just my 2 cents, Vic B.

I agree Vic. I don't blame the owner of Weaver Models/Scalecoat in any way - he deserves some retirement time! Just very disappointed that a great company like that is going away. Scalecoat paint was very high quality and seemed to try very hard to meet the needs of model railroaders. I'll miss them. And no, conversely - Testors obviously doesn't give 2 cents about what had been a loyal customer base. And I suppose they don't really need to. But hey, who needs paint these days anyway? We're all into RTR now...right?

Good news:
Scalecoat Paint has been sold
Wed, 2015-06-24 05:25 — MinuteMan Scale... Modeling general discussion Product announcement ShareThis I would like to thank everyone in the model railroad hobby for their expressions on how good the line of Scalecoat Paints are. I have been working with the owner of Weaver Models for the past few weeks, as of yesterday June 24, 2015 MinuteMan Scale Models now owns Scalecoat Model Paints.
As a lifetime model railroader and a long time user of Scalecoat Paint, when I heard the news I knew I needed to step up and purchase the company.
We are currently packing up and moving the company from Pennsylvania to our shop in New Hampshire.
During this time we cannot ship any paint but we will be accepting orders and hope to be up and running by the end of July 2015.
Once we have the shop set up we will be releasing some new colors. Check back here or our website www.minutemanscalemodels.com for more info.
If you would like any information or would like to place an order, please feel free to contact me via email at info@minutemanscalemodels.com or by phone 978-302-4524
Again thank you for supporting Scalecoat Model Paints.
