This weekend the famous N&W J engine #611 will be rolling some fan trains out to Front Royal VA and back on both Saturday and Sunday. I thought I was going to have to miss it, but I just checked a date, and I won't. My club will have a modular layout as well there, so I will be running scale trains and taking some pictures of the J. Pretty cool! I think the engine is already in town today, Friday, so I may slip out there this afternoon to get some pictures of it parked. Will post them if I do.

Wow, what a day! Got out to the Railfest about 12:20 PM, and hauled my model trains down to the club's modular layout under a protected area. Put my trains inside the layout area, then took off to get some pictures. The 611 was being slowly driven up near the town, then stopped about 100 yards out so that people could take pictures, and it wouldn't interfere with traffic. Pretty awesome engine, I mean to tell ya! I took some videos and pictures, and it was awesome. I will be posting a 4:50 minute video to YouTube and link it here soon. I got the engine doing the start-up and whistle and bell moving into the station. It was pulling all sorts of passenger cars - N&W, NS, NYC, FEC, Wabash, GN, among others. Just a sight to see. I'm glad I got the chance to see it up close and personal on it's inaugural trainfan run. Apparently it's doing a 2-day run, then it won't be doing any more until a year from now. Maybe then I'll be ready to go on it. Anyway, some pictures!
All I can say is, wish ya'll had been here! For a steam engine, it was very quiet, and the whistle was to die for, I love that deep-throated mellow bellow it made. A great experience, just wish I could have ridden it today, but couldn't do it. Oh well, there will be other times.

Interesting documentary about the Modern Coal-Burning Steam Locomotive: https://youtu.be/0TDgyTOjXwE
Wish I could have been there to see the thing in person.
