In Flanders's Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

This is the TYCO forum, but this Memorial Day I invite your military poems, quotes and pictures to be posted under this topic.

Here is a picture of an aircraft I maintained back in the 70's.

And in that time.
When men decide and feel safe.
To call the war insane,
Take one moment to embrace.
Those gentle heroes.
You left behind.

Thanks for posting. I was in the Army. Did helicopter power train mechanics on the Chinook, Apache, Kiowa and Black Hawk. Got a medical discharge during training though. Let's all take a moment to salute our vets and currently serving military personnel.

My Dad served in WWII in the Pacific. I have built a composite from his on line divisional history.

I found this article today - something a little different. The Dutch remember our military service men in a way that I fear we may have forgot. Definitely worth a read.

My father served in WWII, as part of the US Army 30th Division. I remember him telling stories of those times - years ago - he passed away in 1994.

Jerry,
That is a very moving article. The 30th division was instrumental in the breakout from Normandy, in the American push back at the Battle of the Bulge, and the breaking of the Siegfried Line in Germany. I remember my fathers stories, and read about what went on in that war, and I wonder how our fathers managed to keep it together. The hardships and the death all around them. We should always honor our citizens who will stand and fight for us.
Regards, John
