After passing this old building a few hundred times, it caught my eye as a possible old gas station of the past. It is for sale and I wanna call the realtor in the next few days. My only gripe is theres a house built with only a few feet away from it. I can imagine this old building fixed up a little and repainted, with a couple of old 50s-60s restored gas pumps sitting there. Add the old air tire pump with other detail around of the era... Did I mention that I strongly want to own it? It's about 30 miles from my home...

It would be a great spot for a club house and layout.

Agreed. That would be perfect for a clubhouse. You could fix up the garage for the layout to be built in.

ONE thing to watch out for, Walt, is the in-ground tanks. The EPA made stations replace their old steel ones with non-metal ones. Now, the station could have been abandoned before this went into effect, but a Buyer MAY be required to dig them up and replace them upon purchase! Make DARN sure there are no strings attached to the sale like that! Could be a real bummer if you buy it, then find out you have to pay 50,000 to have them dug up and disposed of properly. I've looked at abandoned stations in Virginia myself, but many are on main roads, even if rural, and real estate in that corridor brings a pretty penny, even if decrepit and run down. Plus the specter of the old steel tanks being still in the ground. So I haven't pursued a purchase. But would be fun to own one.

You are very correct Jerry. I have a realtor who is a friend looking into if there are any underground tanks.etc...This may have never been a gas station but it sure favors an old one. Will be interesting to hear what she finds out. I'm also thinking of building the small station scene on our property...
As for the club house with layout... I don't think mine would fit comfortably anywhere in this place!

Just this morning I visited an 89 year old lady friend who lives only 5 miles from the building pictured. I was showing her the photo an she said I know exactly where it is. She shared the fact that it was a gas station back in it's day and later become a small grocery store... Certainly need to make sure the tanks have been removed.

This is a cute little building and it's still for sale. After many trips by I notice that space is really tight. A 90 year old friend of mine remembers when it was a gas station, a small grocery, and she named one more business it shared. Looks like old model A's & T's would fit best. Still love the looks of the old place...

Never did as I told the realtor early on that I wasn't interested in buying. But I still love the looks of it and wish it had just a bit more room near the pump isle. The "deal breaker" is there is a nice two story home very close to the property line next door.

I dunno Walt. Place like that might burst into flames with all those street lights you'd be installing on your new layout.
Cute, iconic building, but one glance at it and I'd bet the rent it is saturated with dry rot shingle to foundation.

You're probably right, Jeff on the rot. I'd like to have a little building to display gas pumps and the old 1960s gas & oil items..., maybe even with an old car on the property.
I believe Ohio's Children's Services is going to buy me one or supply funds for me to build one of my own. I love old gas & oil history...
