A beautiful locomotive with superb detailing at the level of brass. A powerful motor
pulls this weighty locomotive smoothly at a creep to a scale high speed. I love this
piece. The valve gear is exquisite and very rugged: my finger still hurts when I
touched it while moving; not at all flimsy or cheap. Here's my problem: it works
beautifully on American track, such as Atlas, It goes great through #4 turn outs
and it even sweeps 15 inch radii with ease. Then I changed over to
Hornby OO track, which has slightly tighter turnouts than a #4 and blam: now it derails
on them repeatedly. The problem is that the rear driver is set back slightly from
the forward drivers (as on the prototype), therein lies the rub, literally, the drivers
bind on British track.

So, I am selling this honey, barely tested, at $35 plus postage. That, my TF friends, is 2/3 off retail. This baby looks and works great, but NOT on British track.

As much as I would love to, I don't think my parents would help pay for it and stuff. If it was at a train show, I would buy it on the spot at that price, but unfortunately, I don't think my parents would let me buy it from EBay.

Joke from the 1920's:

Man posts and ad in the local paper: Model T Ford for sale, $200.
No replies. Posts an ad the next week: Model T Ford for sale $100.
Still no reply. Posts yet another ad: Model T Ford for Free. I will
leave it at the corner of Elm and Main Streets tomorrow with
the keys in it. Next morning he goes to leave his car off, and
finds 20 Model T's parked at the corner.

Those lovely drivers, the rear axle being set back just another
scale foot or so- that alone is creating havoc on British designed
rails. Probably the American draftsman thought it would do fine
as it worked fine on American standard curvatures. Not so fine
on the tighter British curvatures. It took me many hours to figure
out this conundrum why a British model would fail to run on British
track. Conversely, Horny and some Dapol (British makes) will not
configure to Atlas turnouts: frog depth to shallow.

Looking through an old Tyco track plan book, it called for re-railers
after every single turnout. Good ol' Tyco: it don't stay on anything!

What's the link for this thing, though? I might be able to convince them.

I think it may have been snatched up already Stephen. You know the old train show rule: The time to buy it is when you see it

I sold it for a song on ebay to a pleasant young man who likes steam.
He was worried about getting burned, but I assured him otherwise.
I managed to get a lovely old Triang "Lord of the Isles" for an
equal price, NIB, off ebay. It really is a piece of junk; I don't think
Tyco made worse, and certainly a lot better, but I love the old
girl, had to have her.
