My train shop boss called me at my "real" job Wednesday, wanting to know if I could help him out. I had to decline. Little did I know what I missed! He went to the Washington Nationals ballpark, and into the Norfolk Southern suites. One of the features is an overhead G scale train, featuring NS engine and 6 custom dropwell container cars. He brought one back, and wanted me to work on it. It has a FRED light on the back, the wheels had bearings in one side only, interesting customization, and the axle kept pulling out of one bearing ( epoxied in, and the epoxy was broken loose ). I replaced the wheel sets with LGB electrical pick-up types, and proceeded to change the wiring and connections needed to convert it. After converting, the next thing was , how to darken the wheels to match the appearance of the other cars? I finally wound up using just a permanent marker Sharpie, up close it looks purplish, but once it's in shadow and about 10 feet away, all you see is a darkened wheel. Boss was happy with the way it turned out. I saw the pics of his visit, and hope to get copies and post there here. The suite scoreboard had train cars behind a clear screen, for each ball and strike and out, more cars would appear. A pretty posh set-up, and the cheapest seats in the place were $200 outdoor seating in front of the suite. Inside seats were WAY higher! Sorry I missed this visit! Anyway, here's a few pictures of the car and containers it held I was working on.
