Plans changed. Going to keep my ATSF stuff since I have more off it and the layout is where its at currently. The V&T was on a whim when I won that engine. A dead V8 in my pickup is needing attention now. SO, up for sale is the little #26 ten wheeler. I put an inexpensive can motor in the tender with a dog bone style drive shaft, smoother than the weak open frame motor, original green style box in excellent condition included. Asking $150, what I paid for it. I also have one Roundhouse long V&T coach(gold hill on the side), 2 Battle Mt old time tank cars an a Racine Wagon and Carriage works box car, all old timer style cars. The coach is built but needs couplers, the other ones are still in kit form and all have thier original boxes. Looking for $10 each for the rolling stock. Or you can get the whole package for $170 plus shipping. Thanks Mike
Still NT's, I have Aspergers.

Sweet! I live in the middle of the wild west,
let me know if you want a pound or two of
sand from the desert (which is everywhere).
Sift it out a little bit and it makes good
ground cover. Want a little tan, then give it
a wash of stain or thin tan paint after it
dries. Lichen does well for resembling the
local scraggle bush.

See Raysouthernpac from two or three posts ago
on trading post. He had a set of 1800's coaches
for sale, that might go for cheap. Ray is totally reliable.

Ya better give us some photos, a 1800's Wild West
theme is a pretty rare bird. I am working on a Tame East
1880 operating diorama, myself.

You would think in todays world of high prices, the smaller world of pre 1900 railroading would regain appeal in the world of model trains. With smaller engines, shorter cars and shorter trains overall. The pre 1900 way of railroading is so much more achievable on a small train layout. But we keep getting monsters, more Big Boys, 4-12-2's and other monsters that look plain stupid going around the majority of model train layouts. Here is a teaser pic of my little V&T #26. Mike

That is a beautiful locomotive MIke. You have an excellent point about today's model railroading. Sure does make sense, and it reminds me of Barry's work and layout which is always interesting and looks like a blast.
I think most of us however tend to model the eras we can relate to in our past - so for me I tend to gravitate toward the streamliners of the 50s and 60s that I dreamt of as a kid, and the Superliners I rode on as an adult.

And that doesnt bode well for early era modeling. As the years march on, we have more and more modelers that may have never seen a steam engine in real life beyond a museum. But there was a time and a place where modeling the early years of railroads in America was more prevelant, just not anymore unfortunatly.

I think there's still hope! Seems to be lots of interest in steam here on the forum - and watching those of you that are getting into early steam will raise interest. Mine sure is

For me, I don't really care. I just collect whatever I think looks or is cool unless it's one of those gigantic monsters since the layouts I run can't handle them.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

I'm with cadet. I am also gathering items for a pre-1900 layout. The biggest problem has been finding buildings and other accessories that fit the era. I hate to say it, but your best bet for getting it together is to keep an eye on eBay. I've found old Suydam building kits of the old west style buildings for $14 to $30 that are NIOB. I've also found some Jordan accessories (mostly wagons and such). The only decent rolling stock has come from Roundhouse and AHM. Figures of people are another thing. There is not a lot out there and what I've found so far has not been of the best quality. If you're interested in scratch building, PM me as I have a number of books with plans for old west style buildings and some other structures and maybe I can get copies made of some of them for ya. I wish ya luck with your pursuit. I've been getting my supplies together for over a year now.

I also watch for the wild west buildings that Kibri used to offer, sure wish they would re release them! I need to research and see what the west was like around late 1907, thats when the ten wheeler I have went into service along side the 4-4-0's. The locomotives are just a matter of being willing and able to spend the $$ and rework them with new motors. Freight and passenger cars are a matter of a simple hunt online or at shows. But he is right, buildings, people and the little stuff that brings a layout to life is much harder to find. Mike

Yes I am interested right now, but broke. I have the ATSF 2-8-0 on evilbay. If it doesnt sell, I will be putting all my V&T stuff up for sale. Need funds to pay bills right now, motor in my pickup needs replaced or rebuilt. I had picked up a Roundhouse 50" V&T coach, Racine Wagon and Carriage works box car and a pair of Battle Mountain old time tank cars. I have put a can motor in the ten wheeler. I would sell all the V&T stuff in a package deal if it comes to that. So far no takers on the Santa Fe Connie. Mike
