Got this in 4 boxes of stuff a number of years ago. Finished the locomotive, except for details (which I have), never could find a tender floor. Last option was not do-able, so I built one.
Add the details, handrails, class lights, drawbar, nose coupler, and we're about set.

I tried everything. the bracketed img's, which gave me un-openable boxes in the post. I tried doing it from my hard drive, which is a window still opened that will not post. So, I did it this way.

[okay] But yeah, very nicely done. I actually quite like the looks of those, dare I say it, Varney old ladies. Get it? That's the name of the train and it's old to begin with which makes it quite ironic, I guess.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

Great project! I'm about to take on a similar project, given that I win the auction. Details of course will be posted tomorrow night if I win!

Just finished it. First time it's been functional in 45-50 years. Good feeling.
I have two others, done in the case. No idea what I'm doing with these, but they are important period pieces. When I was a kid, we could not afford Varney. Always saw the John Allen photographed Varney ads in the back of MR. I have a bunch of F-3's, A and B units, some with belt drive on multiple sheave pulleys, some geared. My next project (once the Mantua Pacific is done) is a pre-1949 Vary Super Mikado..fully sprung..including the Central Valley sprung six wheel tender trucks.
I should get a photo of this completed, and put it up.

I've been getting into the older stuff too, lately. Anymore, I just don't find much excitement in what comes out of most manufacturers and DCC doesn't do a thing for me.

All I do is older stuff. Plastic doesn't do it for me. Plus, it's a challenge..like this tender floor. Sometimes I just want to see if I can still do it.

Tried that way of posting. No go. I think because flickr has an ampersand (@) in the url, it won't work.
