I started a white metal kit today at work during break and lunch time. It's an English double deck trolley or tram as they say. Once I get them (I have 2 kits actually) built, I think I'll do a micro-layout to run them on. Here's the start of the West Ham tram.

Honestly, I've never heard of these guys. Is that manufacturer still around?

Cool double-decker! I've seen some smaller scale ones by Matchbox, non-powered, but I wasn't aware that there was a near-HO kit for one. I'm seriously into the trolley world this year, I bought some E & H trolley pieces from two auctions, I may can make about 4-5 trolleys out of the parts, although I will need chassis's for them. Anyway, keep us updated on this kit as it goes together, looks interesting!

I think they're now BEC and unfortunately I don't know much about them. I bought this and another kit on this side of the pond. Ken might know something about them.

Yeah, I've been admiring your trolley fleet for some time now and I've added a few that you have to my want list ... I need them like a hole in the head, but what the heck .. ya only go round this crazy ol' world once, right? I want a Tyco/Mantua and that similar looking one that you have with the nice roof detail.
I should be able to post near daily, so long as I get to it at least once during the day. The plan is to make the cuts and file off the flashing at work. By the time I finish all of the prep work, it should be warmer around here and I can paint and do the final assembly.
Here's the other kit I bought. It had suffered damage during to the motor and white metal parts during shipping. I'm waiting for a warmer weekend to combine some paint stripping projects with this one, and then I can make the repairs. I hate to remove the other builder's paint, but I have doubts about being able to match his paint colors after I make the body repairs.

Definitely PDC (pretty darn cool). Looking forward to seeing the finished product. How does one affix all those metal parts, do you use glue or solder? Looks like a lot of work, best of luck.

I haven't decided exactly how I'm going to affix all the parts and I'm not sure if solder will stick to the white metal. I'll have to do a test joint and see how it goes.
The kit in the 2nd photo is pretty old and clearly came apart due to adhesive failure. I don't want that to happen again, so for certain portions I'll probably use JB Weld to make the bodies of both kits more like a 1 piece casting. One thing that I don't want to do is prevent future access to the mechanicals and the assembly instructions appear to limit access once the kit is assembled. I may have to do some mods for the sake of future maintenance.

That must be the company that made this double decker trolley I picked up at a train show a few years ago as a curiosity for a few bucks. It's made of a very soft alloy, and needed some straightening. I had to add the pickup wiper.

That's exactly who made my kit. I found the reference on the instructions. I'll try to remember to scan them and post. I figured Ken would have a handle on these cool trams.
Here's today's progress. Not much to show, since I had only 1 break today. Just a test fit. There's more filing & fitting to be done. Tomorrow I might be able to test fit the motor.

You're right about that soft metal. VERY soft. I like the looks of the motor in yours better than mine .. Mine just does not look or feel very substantial. It should run OK though. It looks to be geared pretty low and there isn't much to pull.

Those Matchbox ones are from their "Models of Yesteryear" line. I found one in a freebie bin minus the roof, took it home as a curiosity, and lo and behold... it fits N gauge track!! Now the truly crazy among us must begin to speculate how to power one... Darth, are you listening?

Yours is more of a self-contained open frame, and may be quieter, especially because it's new. It shouldn't take much to power one of these. Mine is obviously an older design and runs well but has that grind-y PM-1 sound to it.

No new progress today, but here are the instructions from the kit. I think this kit is pretty old judging from the style motor. The newer motors offered by BEC have more of a square frame.

I've seen those many times. I've just never picked them up because I thought the wheels were broken or something until very recently.
