Starting off this week's SOTW, I present something I just scored at my 2nd-job hobby shop, from an estate lot. First time I'd seen one of these in the iron, so I had to have it. Usually not a set collector, but I made an exception in this case. Tyco Little Trains, I guess a mid-60's era set, looks complete except the track with it is all Atlas, not Tyco. I even got the original transformer for it, too! Has the Tyco Little Trains logo on that as well. The couplers have been replaced with some early Kadee type with long straight whisker pins hanging straight down, at least my co-worker said they are early Kadee. Never seen anything like them before. Box is decent, a bit of mold, but overall a nice set.

HOpe to set it up sometime and run it with the original transformer.

Um, correction, that is not a mid 60's set. That is, in a matter of fact, a mid 50's set. Here's a link to prove it. This is from Tyco's 1955 catalog. http://www.hoseeker.net/tycoinformation/tycocatalog50page4.jpgThe sad part is, I saw that exact caboose from the train set at a train show for $3 in very nice shape aside from the couplers being gone and the coupler slot being covered in crud. I'm still wondering if I should've gone for it.

Olympic ski train by Bachmann, owned by Jose Enrique of the El Paso Model Train Club, rounding on a corner module during a train show. Modules built in 1987, still in use today, weigh a %#$% ton.

Thanks for the time travel correction, so I went back in time another 10 years. LOL! Yeah, I haven't seen any Tyco cars with Little Trains printed on them, got to figure it wasn't a high volume set back then, or there'd be more of those out there. Cabooses are dirt common, so to rarely see one, must be low production numbers. Or everyone is holding on to them. At any rate, glad to know more about my new acquisition. Thanks!

No problem, man. It may not be exactly from Tyco's 1955 catalog (which I got from H0Seeker's Tyco page) but it's from around that time. Definitely a mid 50's product. Especially since they started using the Tyco name on it in the late 1950's.

Wow, nice set! I've seen the engine & caboose separately at times, but this is the first I've seen the set with box.

There's several really nice looking sets of Tyco passenger cars, Ben... I had a lot of Santa Fe pieces as a kid, so I bought the SF passenger set, though I had never had any passenger cars as a kid...

I know it's incidental to the subject, but I like that collection of refrigerator cars in the foreground.

I just got my SOTW this week (thanks raysouthernpac!). Three Tyco/Mantua ATSF streamliners and a Penn Line ATSF Full Dome car. I love these classic streamliner sets.

There's just something about them that the new super-detailed cars don't quite capture. I'm loving all the passenger and vintage Tyco sets this week!
I'll toss in my 1960's Tyco ACL streamliner posing on my old layout.

Beautiful set! Have always liked the ACL color scheme I agree, there's something about the old streamliner models that is hard to quantify in words. Early on, I never thought I was a huge fan personally (silhouettes in the windows? how un-prototypical!) until I got an ATSF set on my layout and watched it run - then I was hooked!

(Just perusing the site and saw this) Actually "Little Trains" was used for only a year or two to introduce the Tyco brand. The set might be from 53 or 54. For anything 50's Tyco nothing beats this site for info - go to the home page and scroll down for all the 50's catalogs.
