Nice Tyco piece, think it still has brake wheel, and does not show any wear. Original box. BO or preferably trade. Goes nice with that Model Power 1300.

The INFORMED connoisseur.
I used to drink it way back. I actually spied it at the local convenience store on occasion. I'm not inclined ( or fallen over ) to drink it these days. Other beers have my favor for flavor these days. Budweiser Black Label is awesome, BTW.

My Dad drank fairly heavy at times along with his cigar smoking. Mom used cigarettes heavily... Between the two, I knew at 10 years old that I would never desire the use of smoking & drinking... and held strongly to my beliefs... I have the Tyco Schlitz box car simply because it's a common Tyco piece...

I would have thought that commercial was a few years later. In the mid 1970's there was always a shortage of something, be it oil, paper, meat, whatever.
Surely, if sitting around eating animals that look like phlegm and drinking a beverage that looks like urine is all the gusto you can grab, there must have been a severe gusto shortage.

Root beer thrived in Prohibition, but the name goes back to 1876 when Charles Hires first produced it commercially for the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. He wanted to call it root tea, but figured root beer would sell better among Pennsylvania coal miners.
Not that it matters, but it's fun to kick around a little trivia every now and again.

Yeah, I have a somewhat similair reason for trying to unload this pup. Couldn't sell it for a nickel on ebay. Also trying to pass along a Budweiser hopper and a Canadian Club hopper. Irony of ironies, thought they would have sold in a snap.

The Elwood scheme has a neat classic-HO connection too. It's a fictional scheme, originally designed for Bill Pirie of Red Ball.

Awesome stuff. Now, some editorials from an alcoholic:
Schlitz new formula is a awesome. Too bad they raised the price. Just like PBR, as soon as the kids found out how good it is, the price went up. Pretty soon only the rich will be drunks.
Schaefer is one of my all time favorite brews, even though I have drank exactly six of them. I will never forget back in 1996 going to "Cub Foods" grocery store and buying....uh no...uh...wait.....er...uh...having my buddy buy a six pack of Schaefer for $1.99. I was young and clean enough back then that a six pack was a big deal. At that time, other cheap beers were $2.59 a six pack, so that seemed like a great bargain.

The "root" is my favourite type of beer... ginger is my favourite type of brew...
However, here's my contribution to this thread... Tyco's Red and Brown Box offerings (note open and closed stirrups)... and one (empty) Canadian glass bottle of HIRES Root Beer.

Hires to you!
John

** Here is my Marx HO beer car. It is a very unique one made up of a log unloading car and a idler flat to allow for the swing of the load. This car is used for bulk deliveries of the product. Two breweries had to be built side by side to allow for enough production to fill this special beer delivery car. frank

Now THIS is a subject I can get behind !!
An Athearn kit (or "Atheranan" as some think it's spelled!! LOL!!!)
And this one, was an Accurail "Data Only" reefer, that I custom lettered, when I couldn't find a Budweiser Car, that EvilBay sellers didn't call "rare" so they could jack up the price!!
