I found this site skimming Google for info on Charles M. Merzbach, a 1950's marketer of N and HO trains, also LGB ( K scale in the old magazine I was reading ). Anyway, thought I'd post this link here, if anyone is interested in some reading. The Home page doesn't lead you to believe it's about anything other than Z, but once you start looking through the site, it's about model trains of other scales as well. This Riley person apparently has some history himself in bringing trains to life in the model realm, I don't recognize his name. Then again, many he listed in the People section under Miscellany I had never heard of, either. But apparently they played some major roles in model railroading getting better. From the Home page, go to Miscellany, then People, and start reading about these guys. Very interesting history from Riley, many of these guys were before our time, and some in the background doing manufacturing enhancements that changed the way model trains were made. If you have an interest in the historical aspects of N, HO, TT, etc, then you will like reading the bio's of these guys. I did. Here's the link :

There's also some full-size train pictures showing what the scale manufacturers liked to make in Euro style, so it's worth browsing the entire site to see what's there. There's some interesting info on Marklin, like the Minex series ( O gauge on HO track, precursor to On30 nowadays, only made 2 years in the '70's ), as well as other interesting subjects, Paul Moore and his hand-made Trolley kits, the Little Scooters torlley kit made to fit on Athearn Hustler chassis's, and other obscure historical modeling trivia. I found it a fascinating site to look through, and haven't gone through it all yet, so it's bookmarked so I can come back. I really liked those Hustler/Trolley kits, nice idea!
Anyway, enough jabbering about it, check it out if you're interested.

I've been to this site a couple of times and found it very useful. It's helped me identify the history of Arnold Rapido as a brand which helped me find how old my N scale Arnold Rapido Baldwin switcher is. Good site.
