Today, I found this photo from 2001 or before. This was me laying out my "future plans" for my 8X12 Slot car-train layout. At the time, the room I was mocking it up in was not large enough... The photo which is almost exactly as my slot car track is today, show that my trains and things stayed in boxes for over 13 years before I had space to use it. To my good fortune, I now have space to add 8 feet to the length of my original plan. I believe "I don't have the room" is the most common phrase that I've heard from model railroaders... So don't give up! For me it was from 2001 until 2014 of a wait...

Nice, Walt! I feel the same way, I got my house, but it's just too small compared to many of my fellow train hobbists, who have a few thousand more sq ft than I have. Sure makes it easier when you have a basement of 80 x 40 instead of like mine, maybe 20 x 25 and broken up into 5 rooms

Neat, Walt!
Jerry, there is a solution to your layout concerns. Knock small holes in the walls for tunnels. Seriously, I visited this guys house one day to see his trains. He had a small layout about 6x10 in one room with a tunnel through the wall with tracks into, I think, it was his son's bedroom. In there was another small layout. I don't remember if it went into any other rooms. I asked my wife about that great layout plan being utilized at our house. She doesn't understand the value of it, yet.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

Paul, if your walls are drywall they are easy to patch should you ever sell your house, and you'll most likely be painting in that case anyway. Maybe that'll help your case a little!

Yeah, actually, that WAS my plan when I bought my house in 1999, I told my then-GF / later wife that I wanted to run trains through the walls. As none of her money was used to purchase the house, she didn't put up much of an argument. But, we have so much stuff, and wall hangings, that it is not really feasible now anyway.
Autobus has a point. I have a vertical stairwell wall, I COULD run the TurboTrain up and down that. Now THAT would be different! I could make some shelving trackage for the "normal" trains, and have the Turbo utilize the loop-de-loops to get to each one on a separate rail system. Could be done. Hmmm....

And then the trains would just fall off the wall. But yeah, I know someone who has a house that's not all that big and I kid you not, this one guy's N scale layout took up the whole upstairs area of it.

Couldn't the Turbo wallcrawl? I seem to remember that it could, what with the magnets and the steel track and all. But of course I haven't actually played with a working Turbo since I was 10...

I'm just wondering how fast you could run the "spider train" on the ceiling like that. I'll have to get out my steel track and TT and see how "sticky" it really is. I'm sure as long as the speed wasn't too fast, it would stay up ok. But too fast and I don't think it would stick well. Worth an experiment or two....

Especially if you want to see your train still working afterwards.

I'm an ex carpet burner. I've got vinyl wood floors at my cracker box apartment. I occasionally set up a loop on the floor and run my equipment. SCARM is my planning. Glad I'm into N for this very reason as a practical HO layout is way out of question.

| I'm one of those crazies that has nearly no fear of spiders, snakes and animals... But I do have respect for them enough to know the damage they can do. However, I catch spiders, moths etc, and let them out of the house, or put them somewhere else in the house where no one uses often. Something questionable I will take outside and put in a safe place that I feel will meet their needs... Nothing dies at my house as long as I am present...

That's an actual spider behind an actual clock. It's an Australian Huntsman. Big, but basically harmless. They like to run along walls in search of prey and are very fast.

Now back to your regularly scheduled web... er, I mean thread.

Yeah, I remember seeing this posted on Facebook sometime back. When you see how wide the legs are apart, compared to the size of the clock <shudder>. Glad to know it's a fairly harmless spider. I'm like Walt, i don't crush or kill unnecessarily. I tend to relocate any bugs outside when I can. Although I relocate the fleas on my cat to the toilet - no love lost there! While I can deal with house spiders, those yard spiders that put their webs across my yard between the trees and the ground REALLY tick me off, especially at night when you can't see them. UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH! I've had to take to walking with a wide tree branch in front of me, waving back and forth, to take out the webs. I have a fair amount ot trees around my house, os it's a problem during the summer and fall months. But I try to get along with most other forms of life as best I can...
