I have a Tyco No. 242 "Dixie Belle" Western & Atlantic 4-6-0 that was missing the black plastic motor cover that goes inside the cab. I got one on ebay and upon attempting to install it found out I am not sure of the correct routing orf the wire to the tender. Does it go beside or underneath the cover, and does the wire go straight out the rear of the cab or does it go down thru the gap between the motor and the frame and then out and rearward beside the dogbone connector to the tender? I have looked for clear photos of this but hav had no luck.

RDC's example shows what I have on my loco's.
It's hard to hide a "thick" cord/pipe.
You may be able to paint a matching shade on the wire insulation. Perhaps it could act as the water pipe connection.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Hi Patrick, I hope you can tell from this photo how the wire is running. Basically, I got into the habit with the 4-6-0's that I have of drilling a small hole (1/16") just below the firebox/motor cover on the left hand side of the cab and routed the wire through that. What I found otherwise is that the wire tension kept pushing the firebox/motor cover out of the cab.
Routing the wire like this seems tidier to me, but it does make it more fussy to disassemble things, though you could go so far as getting some of those miniature male/female wire connectors.
Otherwise, the wire runs along the top of the left side of the motor and out under the firebox/motor cover.
