I wanna add a light to my current project steam engine. I'm using it's original lighting set up, just modified. I wanna force the light beam up since the headlight will sit on top of the smoke box. Then I wanna drill a hole in the bottom of the headlight so the light will shine up into it. How well will this work? Old bulb in a Mantua engine. I know it won't be bright, but, want a sense of a headlamp that lights.

Check out the Mantua/Tyco 4-6-0 locomotives. That's the way they accomplished what you are wanting to do. HoSeeker has the instruction sheets that show the method they used.

Thanks oldtimer! I do own a few Mantua 4-6-0's. I'll take a look at it this week. Not sure about no lense. I may use clear styrene rod to help.
