Hello all.
This project is on the back burner right now, but I thought I'd show off one of my recent projects.
First off, I live near a Goodwill Outlet store, where one can root around and find all sorts of cool stuff for about 50 cents per pound. I've found all sorts of trains in there over the years, but recently I was able to pull out a good amount of Fisher-Price Geotrax track and a few trains. Unlike many toy train systems, GeoTrax actually uses a good old flanged wheel on rail track system (Geotrax gauge is just slightly narrower than 3-rail O gauge), and most of the trains are remote control. These trains were designed for kids to run. I know young kids like going to model train shows, but it can be disappointing for them when they have to stay behind the rope or plexiglass barrier and only watch the trains going by. I figured that, with Geotrax, I could make a small layout that could be operated by the kids, while still looking somewhat decent. So, I set out to create a scenicked layout, much like a scale layout, but with Geotrax trains instead of scale models. There is still work to be done on it, but I would appreciate your feedback on it so far.

I remember that one, Microbusss. On top of that, the second I saw your Geotrax stuff, so many memories of playing with them just flew in. It's nostalgic in a lot of ways. I love what you did with it, though.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

When my son was younger and still at home there was a kids train club in Ottawa that we joined. We attended train shows in Toronto, Kingston, Syracuse, Ottawa and several others. I made up a version of the Time Saver layout and took it to the shows for the kids who stopped by our layout to operate. I was surprised at the number of adults who operated it.
I think it is a wonderful idea.

| Andrew, that not only looks like a fun project, but it seems like something definitely needed for kids to mess with at train shows, or elsewhere. And it's fun looking at pictures of projects like this and your G gauge stuff.
