Poll Question:
OK guys - have been going back oand forth on this question for weeks now and can't decide. I even have both colors of paint ready to spray
Anyway, I have a Penn Central passenger set that needs a set of E7s to pull them. One of the E7s will be in NYC colors, the other will be in Penn Central. Question is, will it be a Pennsy Tuscan patch job or in finished PC Brunswick "green" (black) color?
A couple photos below to illustrate. I know the answer is "whatever I like" but would be interested in hearing any thoughts.

It was hard to decide, because while I think the black PC unit would match the black NYC scheme for a nice matched set, I went with the PRR Tuscan. That was a time of mergers and pooled power and a mixed grab bag of paint schemes would catch that look in a potentially nostalgic way.

I like the dark Penn Central, because it best captures the drab, hopeless, poorly managed, and we are going broke nature of that railroad at that time. That scheme says we are trying, but a positive image is just not going to happen. Be sure and show some rust on the locomotive. Regards, John

I like the black Penn Central livery the most due to the fact that it looks the nicest and actually fits the locomotive more nicely.

Why decide? I say do 'em both, and mix and match according to whatever mood you're in whenever you run 'em.

JNXT:
Freshly painted Brunswick green. Malaise took hold but there was a point when people were hopeful for PC, and the paint had to be new sometime. :)

Just because I like "different" I'd go with the (more rare?) Tuscan Red paint scheme. I've never seen one done like that personally on the modeling level, they're either the turquoise green, or the black, I've never seen the dark green or even a red engine in PC colors. So I'd step towards the "rarely seen" version personally. :)

Some GREAT responses, everyone Thanks for the insights. Have enjoyed reading them. Unfortunately I have argued the same points inside my head. One day I'm ready to shoot the shell with Pennsy Tuscan, the next day it's Brunswick Green. I like the conventional, complete PC livery mostly because like Chops I'm a sucker for PC stuff. I think the ultimate solution will be to do both However... I think the first one will be the patch job. This is the photo that originally inspired me. Just too cool not to do:
I already have the NYC unit ready to go

You did really good on that custom job, JNXT.

Dang...you know I honestly didn't think about that. Would have been perfect with the IHC Penn Central passenger set though, with their seafoam green band.

I really like the patch job. The seafoam green would look sweet. Need a few shells to paint and swap around.

I was (seriously!) going to rivet-count and say that the modeling looked great, but the equipment was a little too clean and the figure looked unnatural. Then I realized it was 1:1.

That's a pretty neat scene. In a retro sort of way.
