Nice paint work on those Hi-Ballers Frank. I've been eyeing those cars for a spell now.

Barry Hi-ballers and die cast cars . These are plastic kits. The company that made them also made a plastic model of the General. They also made 3 freight cars and a bobber caboose. All 1860 era models. The company name was "Trail Blazers". frank

Nice stuff so far guys.
Here's a unique piece of Tyco history (or mystery depending on how you look at it...). This is a set I picked up a couple years back at a train show. The contents don't match what's on the box, but what's on the box is something you won't see anywhere else. The set is named "The VIA/CN Freight" and features a strange variation on an already uncommon Tyco piece.

Note the grey paint on the engine and caboose that would normally be blue. As it turns out Via actually had an F9 and two coaches painted this way for a short period of time, an experimental paint scheme that was to be used on the LRC trains. The lone engine came to be known as the "Grey Ghost". Whether or not Tyco was copying the one-off or just being un-prototypical as usual I have no clue.

Cool set
And interesting how all the train sets of that era always had a father/son picture.

The Tyco sets from '75 to '80, (and probably a broader timeframe than that) came with a catalog of sorts with a father and son on the cover.

Never mind the "odd" colour, the CN/VIA Freight designation is more outlandish. VIA is strictly a passenger service or did I missing something in my history lessons?
