NEW PHOTO with wheels painted and silver axle tips. I couldn't say how long I have wanted a shelf to display my Matchbox cars on. I found this one at a flea market two weekends ago. Bare wood and had pool balls on it hanging on the wall. Price tag $15 and I was going to walk. My wife ask the lady if she would take $10 and she said yes without the pool balls. I bought some paint that closely matches the boxes the cars come in. Shelf part is 1-3/4 thick, perfect for what I wanted it for. I may paint a window on the cab, and add a red "MATCHBOX" on the door...

I like it! It's always cool when you just stumble upon something that's perfect for your uses, even if it takes forever to stumble!

There's another type of display you can look for. I've found several, and bought them, they are for golf balls, one side of the shelf has indentations for the balls, but you can flip the whole frame over and it looks exactly the same, except now the shelves are flat. I have some model trains on display in my work office in one of these. Normally run $40 new, but I have picked them up for 10 or 15 at thrift stores. I like the fact that the display case is flippable , so you can use it either way. Keep an eye or two out for these, they can be had cheap second-hand. They're about 16 inches high, 14 wide roughly. I'll take a picture of the one at work, and post it later.

Ok, I remembered to actually take a picture or two of the display I have at work. This one has a triangular piece on top, I have another one without that. Anyway, it would work for either diecast autos or trains.

That is nice, Jerry! I have 33 MIB regular wheel Matchbox I want to display... They seldom see daylight so I think this little truck will do them good...

Woah! Jerry, that looks like something straight out of some rich person's house from the 1800's.

That is correct. Like I said, they're about $40 new, but I have been seeing them at flea markets and thrift stores for much, much cheaper. They're free standing, or can be hung on a wall. And they look real classy, too. Why anyone would want to display golf balls is beyond me . Might be a good going-away present for Obama and the Democratic majority, though <whiff! >

Jerry, that is a beautiful curio stand. Very well made, made like a house with a gable roof with soffits, and giant square columns on the sides, and built on a pedestal. I watch to much of a cable channel the Antique Road Show. That's how they describer thing there. Is that a open hinged glass door to the right side. A real good piece of work. * it looks like it is big enough for a Pacific or Mikado loco with tender. My kitbashed locos would look good there. I never seen one before. You say they are for displaying Golf Balls. * HEY ! Sean; I can see the 2-6-6-2 logger loco on one of those shelves. Along with other neat locos. frank

Oh! Those Matchbox boxes reminded me of something I've been wondering. I have a Matchbox DAF girder truck from the late 1960's with the box. Should I take it out of the box and display it on top of the box or should I just leave it in the box?

Yeah, I do. But then again, for the display case, there's barely enough room to display the cars anyway so maybe that's just paranoia kicking in or whatever.

Stephen, if I had only one, I wouldn't care if it was in or out of the box. I'm ok with mine staying in the box. Mine has rarely seen daylight at all. But I did have 30 plus of them in a display behind glass for a while.

Walt, that display turned out nicely for the MB cars!
I'd personally want to see the vehicle, not just the box. depends on the person. I'd rather see BOTh, though, since if I have the box, I'd like to display it as well.

Thank You, Jerry! I couldn't agree more about the Matchbox cars being displayed out of their boxes... Plus, I have more cars than the truck will hold to look nice. I have several other larger old toy displays to make once I get the train/slots table a little further along... I believe the Matchbox cars will be re-displayed and visible, at that time.

Thank You, Ben but no. The most I will do to this thing might be if I run across some red lettering to do the rounded "MATCHBOX" on the door... I'm not sure if that will ever get done though...
