I'm an ole guy that started model railroading around 1973. Had three layouts early on through 88, but moved and just now getting back at it. Started my current layout about 6 years ago, but got sidetracked (no pun intended). Have several Tyco & Mantua loco's. Have been getting some of them out and found that my Mikado is missing the front pilot spring and one screw that is located below the cab to hold it together. Got it all lubed and running good again. Was hoping that someone on here would just happen to have one or both the spring and screw or tell me where I can find one. Glad to find this forum either way. Hope I can be of help to someone with Tyco/Mantua. Thanks, CRengineer, JT

Hi JT, Welcome. Maybe you can get back to that layout, soon. Post some pictures, too. The screw and spring might be found at Yardbird trains, online. Of course, there is good old ebay. The screw is probably a standard 2-56. Any hobby shops in your area? If you can attend a local train show, they are a source for parts and all kinds of good deals on locos and rolling stock.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

Before you go to too much trouble to find the pilot truck spring, try running without it. I run a Mantua Mikado without the spring and the pilot truck tracks just fine on track that is far less than ideal.

JT, I found a grab bag of small springs at Harbor Freight Tools a few years back. Labeled a bin draw springs and put them in it. I fixed a number of things with those springs. I do not know if they still stock that grab bag. Any how welcome to the forum! Glad you are here, John

Thanks everyone for your replies. I do run the engine and so far it don't cause problems without the spring. I noticed it missing (something I had forgot) when I was servicing it and checking it out and making sure it had good lube. Of all my Tyco, the Mikado and the Pacific are my fav's. They run quit well. I will attempt to convert them to DCC. But if not, they will still get run as is. Thanks again.

Welcome to the site. I tend to come and go as my interests waffle around. One of the side effects of my Aspergers Syndrome. I am also from Indiana, north central area for me. Mikie

Welcome to the forum even though this topic was posted back in October.
