Print photos from a trip I took in 1993 to Gettysburg Pennsylvania.
This engine's boiler later exploded in 1995 which eliminated steam trips from this railroad. I also visited a hobby shop in Gettysburg. They had mainly N scale items.

What a gorgeous engine. Fortunately it didn't actually explode, but the water lever dropped too low and the safety plugs blew out before they could dump the fire, badly scalding the engineer & crew. From what I read the engineer was disabled after jumping to safety. IIRC the sight glass gauge was clogged internally due to improper maintenance, so the boiler read full.
We're losing the last generation that had firsthand knowledge of steam, and tourist lines are usually run by volunteers. Steam and inexperience are a really bad mix.

What a gorgeous locomotive. And in a matter of fact, it still lives! Here's an article talking about where it is now. It's a shame that happened though. http://www.ageofsteamroundhouse.com/loco1278.html

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

Great photography: you fit in the maximum amount of train in well composed shots. What a terrible thing to happen to the crew. Murphy's law alive and well.

Updating this thread with the same photos with more color.
The steam engine is at a museum in Ohio. May one day run again.

was just reading about the loco & apparently it's the reason of lots of rules for maintaining & restoring steam locos now it suffered a low water boiler explosion
I would like this loco but in Gettysburg RR instead of CP in HO

There are stricter rules concerning steam engine maintenance. In part due to the accident in the Gettysburg area in 1995.
Some nice videos of the railroad and a hobby shop there.
Not my videos just want people to see its recent past.

Sad to hear that 1278 had her day, but at least it set a new standard so that we can have more steam on tourist lines, and better safety to ensure it doesn't happen again!
