Today while wiring a few Fluorescent pole lights, I experience a problem. I found that the older bulbs found in the blue blister packs, may not work... At least 11 of the 16 in the older blue blister failed to light up. The newer orange/white packs all work. I must say that I'm not surprised that the bulbs didn't work as these could be near 50 years old. I'll probably buy a few more packs on eBay, but will only by the newer cards...

| Have fun messin with them, Ben. I had one apart last night with a replacement bulb and the wires were impossible to get wire thru the top bent section... You'll have to find bulbs with really fine wires...

Walt, they have probably been jarred over the decades. A good blow or drop is enough to break some of those tiny filaments.

| You're right NP759... Hard to tell what poor handling these has had over their 50 year existence... I was thrilled to think I had a dozen extras only to find out I just barely had enough to complete the section I wanted them for...

Today I have found that the bulbs/ wires in the Life-Like Expressway poles will work in the Tyco Fluorescent poles. The bulb is a littler shorter but I don't believe that would be an issue... So this looks like what I will use when replacing the Fluorescents. I have about 18 extra L-L poles right now...

Against my better judgment, last night I found a "blue pack" of the Tyco fluorescent lights and bought them. The $3 buy it now and $2.54 shipping was worth the gamble. I hope they work! http://www.ebay.com/itm/321909914891?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

My only excuse is, I had bought 100 of these light poles. When I set them up around the layout, I found that 5 blue packs didn't work (10 bulbs). Then I gave 4 away to a forum member and barely had enough for what I needed. Trying to round up a few extras now....

Actually, I use them at about half of the brightness that they put out. Don't want "too much" light from one, it would look phony...
Received the latest pack of these and they worked fine....
