Under his breath, the farmer mutters, "Nothing smells like a John, " as he makes minor field repairs on his John Deere Model H.

I had a patch of just bare rock in an area that was too close to the edge in a high traffic area. Buildings and trees were out, but a nice low field and tractor would do. Since the moving trains emphasize that the tractor is not moving, I chose a pose that suggests a stationary tractor.

The grass along the field is manila hemp rope fiber. The soil is potting soil glued down with diluted carpenter's glue. The tractor and disk harrow are a Woodland Scenics kit painted and weathered. The farmer is a Bachmann Plasticville figure.

Very realistic, impressive scene. The figure really adds to it as always. Did you paint it? Looks good either way.

That's just beautiful, scsshaggy. That dirt and grass look so realistic.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

The Bachmann figures came in a flesh tone color with a little paint set, so yes, I painted it. The paints looked like little tablets and you would wet a brush with trichloroethane and dissolve the paint into it. Of course, trichlor is illegal, now, but I've had those figures for about 40 years.

Thanks to you and Steve, both, for the kind words.
