Nice job, Ken. That looks so much like something Mantua would've actually made shortly before they were bought out by Model Power.

Very nice, Ken! They make a good pair. Are they custom painted? I picked up some old time coaches today...guess I'll be looking for one of these in the future.

hi guys, the guy who sold me these put this on the site and yes custom painted ken The Model A beautifully built and painted Mantua white metal kit that has been updated, upgraded and fully detailed, including a modern motor and replacement connector rod that is far superior to the original design. The paint job and lettering on this model is just superb and is in perfect condition. It runs incredibly quietly and it's slow speed control is just superb.

This year's the 150th anniversary of the Civil War? I thought that was back in 2011 or 2012.

Oh, okay. Sometimes I don't have a very good memory and that mistake is one of those.

This was my first locomotive when I got back to this vocation a couple years back. It's been through a couple of redo's, but I had the best experience (today, no less) when I had to mount a different coupler and decided to oil it. Crazy . . . I must have overlooked that for so long. It's always been a good runner, but that oil just quieted it down to such a nice little purr.

Barry, is that whistle glued down? The tall part goes over the steam dome. The lower part leading to the roof appears to be some kind of mechanical linkage for blowing the whistle. This picture of the prototype General sort of shows it, though it's not so very easy to see: http://www.kennesaw.com/attractions/the-general/
Sorry to nit pick, but I figured you'd find out sometime, anyhow, and then it'd sow the seeds of discontent.

| Don, thank you very much for straightening me out. Sort of like walking in to junior high home room with your fly down, hey? I'm going to go in to the attic right this minute and get that corrected. Yet another invaluable lesson learned from this forum!
