Looked a rusty ol' Rivarossi Reno 4-4-0. Seller wants $25. The front pilot truck and the front of the frame and some of the side parts are corroded. I know it's a gamble, but, I figure the parts will be worth it. Did find a valve guide on eBay on the cheap. I just wonder also if the piston rods could be re-plated. I've seen way worse be resurrected into life once more. What y'all think?

Hell, I even made 2 busted 4-6-0's into one whole again and rebuilt a steamer with locked wheels.

Why not? If you can fix up engines in worse shape than this thing then why the heck not?I have one of them AHM 4-4-0s in ATSF livery. Here's a picture of it that I posted in one of the OTWs a few months back.

Not exactly this loco but it's got a nearly identical mechanisms. It's a good engine once you get it running. Trust me. You won't be disappointed.

Way too steep for one in that shape. It's an early one with brass turnings and an illuminated headlamp, but the steel frame is also badly rotted. This wasn't just stored in a humid area, it was submerged, and you have to assume the worm shaft and bearings may be unsalvageable.

The universal shaft has been replaced with a screw with nuts on each end that is also badly corroded. Motor may be rusted solid. I bought a first run Genoa in perfect shape at a train show for $15. That was a good deal, but this is a total mess.

I may buy it if he'll go down or at least take some pictures of the under side. I figure the parts maybe good for some other project or something.
