You can get some sweet stuff for crazy cheap at garage sales sometimes. I've seen other people on this forum get great stuff for really cheap at garage sales.

Nice Tyco set! I've got a switcher like that, complete with the MU-2 drive.
I bought a 1979 Tyco Burlington Northern train set from a thrift store near my brother's college last fall, sans locomotive, for only six bucks. (Besides, who needed that crummy un-prototypical PowerTorque-powered BN GP-20, when I had a better Mantua version to pull those cars?) Now I upgraded some of the cars with knuckle couplers, and am using the power pack it came with to control my turnouts and Tyco "Prestomatic" accessories on my layout!

My SOTW is an old American Flyer Prestone Car Care Express. Don't know much about it, was found in a junk box at an antique store.

JNXT, nice find. Even if it doesn't work it looks like you could easily get it working again. Walt, I like the coaches in that set you got there. The only thing you're missing is obviously a Tyco/Mantua Santa Fe F-A unit. Nice set otherwise.

The Prestone Car Care Set came out in 1960. The rolling stock are all common . The locomotive is rare and has a value range of $50.00 to $200.00

Thanks for the info! Can't remember what I paid for it but it was next to nothing. There is a loose wire between the loco and the tender so it needs a little work, but I like it as a display piece anyway - reminds me of when I was a kid.

I have one just like it - except Micro-B has the F unit and you have one more car than I do.

Good job, microbusss! It doesn't look to bad either after doing a bit of research to see what it looks like.

I picked up this sweet "six pack" on Tuesday night, the boss said he'd just put out the old Life-Like cheesy (his word) beer cars upstairs in the store for 5.99. He took them out of the original boxes and threw them (boxes) outside, and showed me. Want'em? Um...yeah. AND the cars. I've seen/heard of the 6-pack set, but this is my first set, AND with all the original cardboard and pieces. Not mint, but still all there. :D Not sure what he's gonna charge me, less than the price on them I think. :) All the cars are mint, were probably never used. I've seen a few here and there, but never all 6 of them. Been wanting the Tuborg boxcar, I used to drink Tuborg Gold in my teens, I liked it. But most of these are hard to find nowadays. Me thinks the boss missed the boat on this "set", he probably coulda got more than the $36 he had just the cars listed for (on Ebay), if he had the whole cardboard pieces with them. Now I have them. Heh heh heh....

Back at the end of May gmoney posted pictures of several pieces of rolling stock that were available at an antique shop near to him. I got him to get me a couple of cars and mail them to a friend of mine. I got to Watkins Glen, NY the last week of June and picked them up. I now have a Durango train, although a short one. The searchlight caboose is one of the cars Glenn got for me. Thanks Glenn.

You're welcome, Alex! I'm glad the cars arrived safely; I always worry about how USPS, UPS, etc. will handle a package.
If you need the BN boxcar, Southern pulpwood car, and Virginian hopper to finish that Durango set I can hook you up.

Dig that orange radiator glow.
Jerry, nice Flyer score. The reference I checked says that set was a 1960 production, a few years before they closed their doors. I knew it was a late model by the plastic drivers. I don't think it had the chug & smoke unit either.
