You may be wondering, why is there a new LOTW so early? Well, the answer to that question is that I will be leaving on a vacation and I won't be back for about a week so I wanted to post my OTWs early before I forget. My LOTW is an Arnold Rapido Southern Pacific GP-7 from the late 1960's, early 1970's. It runs great too!

I actually think they kinda apply to both SOTW and LOTW actually.

A Roundhouse 2-6-0 that once looked familiar to John (Zebrails) that has now turned into my #11. Probably my favorite project i've done all time and lets just say i've done every type of project imaginable but this one just allowed me to do whatever I wanted to do. Got it in a very bare condition. Stripped of all any and all detail parts on the engine and tender. I shortened the bunker height to better fit the height of the cab, then added the walkway, handrails, and oil bunker to it then i numbered it. The detail parts and everything added to this engine other then the side rods has been just stuff i had lying around the shop. I really wanted this engine to be one of my favorites so i decided to leave the boiler in its primer color and simply paint the frame, tender, and some of the detail parts. Not a detail kit, all just stuff I had lying around that I thought would look good and it has! Lettered the cab after me
I will be building custom valve gear for it after i finish all the detail. All the wheels have been cleaned and pick up plates added to the tender wheels. I provided such a long explanation as i do not post here much at all anymore. Custom building the valve gear will take me a while but she'll be done in a few months.

I've probably posted this before, but JRG1951 mentioned it last week, so here it is side-by-side with the newer version. The AHM BL2:

The front view really shows the differences in the two versions:

I just realized it's missing a horn!
Sorry for the wacky tablecloth!

Here is my hot tip for the day! The chassis from the old Atlas/Con Cor GP-38 and GP-40 are a perfect fit in an older AHM BL-2. In fact, the squareish split fuel tank is actually closer to that of the BL-2 than that of the geeps. The Blomberg trucks look much better than the AAR type from AHM and the truck centers come out in just the right location. I will get mine out and post a shot of it. Given their age , the AHM unit looks pretty darn good but the proto version is definitely top-notch quote:

My LOTW is a AHM/Rivarossi Northern Pacific U25C that I recently acquired from raysouthernpac. A very smooth runner, would put it beside any later Athearn or Proto unit and for its age the details are excellent, especially the trucks.

Jerry, those are nicely detailed trucks on that GE, and a great trackside photo! That shot brought back childhood memories of standing trackside watching the local switch crew work the small yard a block and a half from the house where I grew up. Right now I can just hear the flanges squealing and the sound of the wheels as they bump across the frogs and joints of the poorly maintained track.
That's one nice time machine you have there! Thanks for letting me borrow it.

That reminds me (here I go time traveling again!), When I was growing up, I had a neighbor who had a branch line running behind his back yard, and on one occasion he was trying to pull up a stump by the track with an old Ford tractor. The local switch crew rolled by and offered to snatch that stump up for him with the locomotive. Well, the chain stretched instead! That stump was a bit stronger than 1750 horses! (To be fair, when they pulled in the other direction, the stump lost, but still...)

Chops, I've known club layouts where there's a kind of peer pressure to show up with only the latest in over detailed sound equipped state of the art equipment. A big club that is willing to see the old classics get out and run deserves some recognition for its flexibility.

I always thought that the C-420 was to freight what the PA-1 was to passenger locomotives. Nice proportions and a long nose make for a handsome example of motive power.

I remember a couple years ago, visiting the Little Rock AR Union Pacific engine service facility to see the Centennial they have displayed - there was a long-nosed Alco creeping by. I liked the look, and it comes off much better in person. Nice looking loco.

That IS crazy I saw it and just assumed burlington77 put a number decal on the AHM BL-2.
Makes you wonder how the same number got on a P2K and an old AHM. You think they both were going by the same photograph or something?
