It is upon me, like some strict religious observation, and this year me and the boys are hauling a heap of equipment ranging from newly minted HO modules to early vintage Tin Type operating displays out to El Paso Union Depot (built 1910) and will do our best to run our trains, meet and great, and share the passion and joy for model railroad.
As I see the Tyco Forum, and I speak only for myself, it doesn't have to good, it just has to be you. With that sentiment in my heart, we will cast ourselves upon the unsuspecting visitors!
This year's new comer is an ambitious Tyco layout built to be taken apart and then reassemble in a matter of minutes. A product of a lot of trial and error, we will see if she works reliable!
She has a name: "TYCOMANIA" subtitled: "a pre binary entertainment center (what we did before video games). Might have some Bee Jees and Diana Ross playing softly in the background.
May the Model Rail Goddesses smile upon me!

Looking good so far! Looking forward to more pictures if you post more.

"A lot of modellers out there who go to these train shows see broken HO stuff and go, 'This is useless' when, in reality, they can still be used for modeling whether it's as a prop on your layout or a cool project to make something old new again."

I've got that crossing gate! I got it with my Freight Runner train set. Currently I have it in storage, due to my layout not using Power-Loc track, but I still sometimes use the track for temporary layouts and for breaking in new locomotives.

I just sawed the ends off some True Track and it fit fine. A high end modeler I am not.

I love seeing layouts built like this; you really captured the vintage Tyco flavour. Great work!

To my horror, this is what a year's work was reduced to in a few minutes of loading, off loading, re loading. It never made it to the show as a stand alone train display demonstrating vintage 1970's Average Joe's model railroading.
The blessing, was that after unscrambling this heart rending mess was that I realized the layout was meant to be seen from four sides. This allowed me to completely redesign the city scape and balance suburbia on one side and industry on the other, and leave a few swaths of open country which relieved the congested feel. In other words, it looks a whole lot better. In the photo below I am testing out some track which is nailed through an inch of styroam, so that it floats a bit like a mangrove swamp. This allows for flexibility, I hope, during transporting the two segments. In other words, Tycomania is looking a whole lot better, more cohesive, more balanced.
The visual joke of the cows wandering into the Burger Joint is reference to anyone who has ever thought, "Dang, what's taking so long? Are they getting the cows?"

At the end of the day, the important thing was not that Tycomania languished in the back of the truck, due to numerous logisitical failures, but that we got the crew's module's up and running and everyone ran their trains and had a good time. Better luck next time for Tycomania.
