My friend Steve and I made the 4 hour trip to the huge show at the Dupage County, IL fairgrounds. Show was packed with people! First finds were a pair of LGB German freight cars for my outdoor G scale layout, a Esso tank wagon and a Lowenbrau bier wagon, both 2 axle wagons. Then I scored one of the LGB RIGI cable car sets sans the hand crank or battery motor set up, which is fine as I just want a static display on the outdoor line. Last up I scored a Midnight Special caboose and BN 50' box car almost new in the box. Pics tomorrow evening hopefully. He bought a Alco models brass N&W T6 Alco switcher, custom painted and weathered for his N&W layout. Caught a few real trains on our way home. Mike
Still NT's, I have Aspergers.

OH WOW ! I was there too !

It was my 1st time there.
There were vendors in 5 different buildings.
Well.....the 5th building had one lonely vendor in it this time around.

But still the largest model train swap meet I have ever been to so far.
The local ones where I live would usually fill up the 1st building at best.

My scores were , all HO scale

Athearn F7A-B Santa Fe , Locomotive 39 from the 2002 production run.
MINT condition.
I looked it up at Athearns site,,2002 was the only #39 I could find.

Athearn blue box kit - 50' Mechanical Reefer , Jersey Central Lines.
Last run of these in Blue Box kits was Also from 2002,,interesting.
Had some paper stuck on one side, which came right off with some water, cloth dish towel and a bit o'elbow grease.
The plastic wheels with metal axles had Rust,,but I had some proto 2000 metal wheels on hand,,these work quite well in Athearn trucks.
Only one knuckle coupler works, the other got rust on it too and does not work so well.
Shoulda picked up a packet of Kaydees while I was THERE but Nooooooooo I did not.

One more,,,i THINK the maker is probably Roundhouse/Athearn the coupler covers scream Athearn.
50' express ice reefer,,,Michigan Central/NYC. This might be a custom paint/run car.
Very nice car though

Here are some pics of my scores from the show. That rear building will be mostly packed with dealers at the November and December shows, this time of year its usualy about bare. I spent all of my money at the main building and building 2. Loads of G scale at this show, could have spent another 200 bucks if I had it to spend this trip. Mike

ok here they are

A train collection is just not a collection unless you got at least one Classic Santa Fe "F" series loco.
I have a number.

still unfinished state,,still needs Kaydee couplers & most hobby shops are conveniently closed by the time I get off work

I found the cars in building 1,,,got the A&B locos in building 4 I think it was.

Originaly I went there hoping to find a Athearn F7A with a working chassis and crap shell for a Milwaukee Road F7 shell I have on hand,,i like restoring worthy Athearn F7s , they were built like tanks. Especially if they got one of those super weights in them.

I was also on the look out for a Bachmann Tri-level auto carrier in PenCentral,,,mine took
a canyon dive,,and to put it simply,,was BEYOND repair

Yep no doubt about it,,Lionel O scale and G scale fans would have gone nuts there
