unless someone has something for trade. Open to all offers.
Trucks helped drive the Penn Cental, and its hapless predecessors, straight into oblivion. Thank you, Ike.

I mighty find steed. Fought for the cause until the bitter end, when, ack, splutter, she got hogwashed in Conrail blue. Only outmatched in humiliation by the rebranding of the once glorious Boston and Maine with the Giant Guilford G across her iron flanks. Most ugly, vain, conceited paint job in the history of railroading. Something some African despot would have dreamed up.
Give me the Black Widow brandishing her worms I love in a shameless in your face going down with all hands on deck!

Ha! Guilford's scheme is a positive study in svelte, sexy, demure repose compared to this ultimate abominate design abortion:

For vainglorious railroading amok, you can't do worse than repeating the same non-relevant clipart 8 times (a streamliner on a road switcher.... really?), and the owner's name 4 times, all in Arial over "Lookitme Red".
Hideous.

mmm not me JNXT If I knew the history of loco I'd paint it right back into the original scheme Like say it was Rock Island originally? It'd be painted like that
Wait! I just noticed the sticker on the nose of that Ford Areostar! A Doctor Who fan?

Hmm yes I think road switchers are just as great-looking as the old streamline diesels, but it seems like many road switcher schemes are an afterthought, a streamline scheme (such as in the case of the ATSF) applied to a switcher. I always liked Conrail's and BNSF's paint a lot, much more than I liked seeing the ATSF and SP schemes force-fitted to switchers. As for the RJ Cornman loco, not a bad scheme but the poorly placed lettering and ugly nose graphics do it no favors.

I seem to be in the minority on the Corman scheme
Micro-b I can see your point on painting an old unit back to it's original scheme - that would be even better I suppose but thinking in the ugly old real world I imagine you would get into trademark complications. Locomotives are an extension of the railroad's logo, and in that respect the Corman scheme is A+, it is unmistakable from a distance, easily recognizable. Lots better than the usual line/patch through the old logo that many short lines employ. Is that a UP? BNSF? Who knows? The L&N used different schemes for passenger and freight
Still love that Corman look

I agree with with your opinion about Gillford industries treatment of their engines. But their arrogance went beyond their paint job. They would, with little or no notice, abandon semi-profitable routes, despite rulings from the ICC. Nobody mourned their passing. Sadly, even though there are plans to restore services (like the abandoned line from Springfield mass to White river junction VT) most of the business that depended on the RR have closed up shop and moved away. The damage has been done.
