Tyco "Speedy Andrew's." The camera resolution is poor, but the girl in the chair is blowing a bubble of gum. Photographed on Tycomania Layout.

The young girl from Speedy Andrews place will want to visit her local church in Tycomania
and ask forgiveness for making a mess with her excessive gum at Speedy's place.

Got a Bachmann "Marshal's Office and Restaurant" at the local train show a couple Saturday's back. I'd been eyeing them because of the vintage and the long covered porch. A bargain at $3 and several hours of tinkering. This is what I've come up with so far; still needs some trimming of the roofing paper and chimney's or stacks for the smoke from the stoves. I removed some muttons and mullions from the window sashes and covered the factory board roof with "rolled roofing" (masking tape). I think it also needs some sort of a foundation yet. Anyway . . . hey, you could be responding to your wife's request to look at a cute baby animal picture on facebook.

It was kinda fun paintin' the mud wall at the back of the "jail", though I'm not sure this place will be used as a jail; maybe a bank or post-office?

So this is what the current settlement looks like . . .

That is so unique and eye catching. I'd love to see your layout at a show.

I'd like to do another 1860's layout, but what holds me back is that the only 1860's locomotives are the AHM American types with tender drive motors. After a dozen hours of continuous running at train shows I found they worked worse and worse and worse until the tender was oscillating and lifting the tender trucks off and on the tracks.

I googled and found no results for an 1860's American type, or similar locomotive other than AHM, Tyco, or Bachmann- all using the same blue print. Never saw one in brass.

I recently found a 2-4-0 NIB AHM at Tin Plate Henry's that has a motor sticking out into the cab. I'll try that.

Barry, nice job on the weathered wood. I've been doing a lot of looking at weathered wood (shingles, old barns with the paint completely gone, etc.), lately, and its color seems to be a hard to capture mix of colors and textures. This building looks pretty convincing, though.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Yeah, Ben, I dig that railroad hotel model; seems like a bunch of other people do as well by the way they get bid on. Don, that weathering was kind of a serendipitous effect. I had the pieces soaking in brake fluid for several days and scrubbed and scraped and never was able to get it all off, so it's a mix of underlying colors with Jacobean Minwax on top and then dull coat. I was fortunate that the molded in wood grain survived all the abuse.
