Hi guys!

I bought four AHM EMD SW1's which I stripped down and repainted three for SP Tiger Stripes and one Holly Sugar.

I did the Holly Sugar one first, simple paint job. Body in Reefer Orange and the deck in Flat Black. I broke down the power truck, cleaned all the gears lubed and reassembled. I installed a Sagami can motor. Put it on the layout and it runs like a champ. (I'll post photos at a later date.)

I was very pleased with the way it came out so I started on the second one. Same procedure but when I put it on the layout it slips badly. It runs kinda okay with the front weight removed and barely pulls a 2% grade and slips like crazy with the front weight and will not go up a 2% grade.

I spent three days trying to figure out what was going on. One by one I swapped components from the good one to the bad one without effect until I got to the power truck. Now the bad one runs good and the good one runs bad.

Then I noticed that the good one has traction tires and the other three didn't. Now I can't imagine the three engines came from the factory slipping so badly so I'm thinking someone, for some reason, took the axles with traction tires out and replaced them with axles without traction tires.

So now I need either three sets of AHM EMD SW1 traction tire wheel/axle sets or complete power trucks with the traction tires. Or complete engines, with the traction tires, from someones junk box.

NickelPlate759 (Nelson) had two to spare that he sent me. I really appreciate it. That puts a second SW1 on the rails.

I still need four more axles/wheels to get the other two on the tracks. I'd love to hear from anyone who has any to spare.

Thanks!!!

MBVince - just to understand you, do you need traction tires for wheels that someone removed them from....or you need traction tire/wheelsets because they replaced them with wheels that don't take traction tires? I have a bunch of traction tires but not the wheels...

I need the actual traction tire wheels. Someone removed them and put on plain wheels.

I could be wrong, but from what I understand, the product called Bullfrog Snot is made to be used on engines that never originally came with tires. It's essentially liquid traction tires. Maybe this could help out if you can't source replacement wheels.
