Hi, I've come across an old Mehano RS-11 that runs great but I need some parts. I need 4 geared axle/wheel sets & the sideframe/ bottom covers for the trucks. A "new" old chassis plate with handrails would be nice too. I hope to rebuild this BN into a Norfolk Western. Lots of old Tyco/AHM so a trade may be possible. Thanks for any help. This is my first day here so "Nice to meet you".

Welcome, Hank.

This the all wheel drive version, right? I have the wheelsets but nothing else. I have sideframe assy's that would fit, but they're Fairbanks Morse.

Hi Nelson

I am 99% sure its all wheel drive. Looks like the axles would need very small gears on them to power each wheelset on both front & back. I could try to put up a photo. Been a while since I've attempted anything with trains (30+yrs). I would be interested in your wheelsets & sideframes. I'm not a purist in these matters. Motor sounds pretty good, want to see it run on my 4 foot track!

Nelson,

Did Mehano make a 8 wheel drive FM C-Liner? I believed that all the FMs wee 4 Wheel drive.
Did most Mehano 4 wheel drive diesels have traction tires on one of the trucks?

I have seen this type of drive in several brands of Locomotives made by Mehano.
Hank is this the type of drive in your RS11?
/tyco/forum/uploaded/JRG1951/20140315011049_AlcoMehano.gif

A GP18 with this drive was imported by both Model Power and Mehano. Bachmann and Ahm also sold a Mehano GP18, but the early versions may have used a 4 wheel drive.

Here is a post on the GP18 8 wheel drive

Here is a post on the RS-3 [2] 4 wheel drive.

Your best bet may be a used complete unit.

I'll try to post some photos of my RS-11. Maybe they will help you help me. What do I do after selecting 'insert image' on my reply? How did you post the diagrams? I also can't figure out the gallery part of my page. A nice "HELP" tab somewhere on this site would be greatly appreciated.

Hank,

On My windows PC.
I usually download my pictures to my computer. I then find the pictures and right click on the the picture and select edit. This will load the picture into Paint. I then reduce the picture to about 30% and then crop the picture. I then save as a GIF file and note the file name and location.

I then select Add Attachment in the editor and browse for my GIF picture. I then select my picture and then select Upload. Then after the upload add it to my post.

Hope this helps John

John,

Yes, Mehano made an 8 wheel drive C-Liner for IHC. You usually see them in Corky's Carnival livery, lol. Here's some shots of a Pennsy unit I remotored, and the retooled FM sidefames, which are much nicer than the clunky oversized originals.

You can see one of the wipers I added screwed to the truck housing. I think they came from some old Bachmann trucks in my junk box.

The 8 wheel drive units don't rely on traction tires, only the units with one power truck did.

Hank, I checked my parts case, and I don't have enough of those wheelsets. You could what you need from a junker AHM GP18, which are very common. They would give you Blomberg sideframes as stand-ins until you find the proper Alco ones. You could also cut them off and graft on some other Alco frames from a donor loco.
