I got a Tyco Broadway trolley that I got in a clear case with white around the place where you put the trolley in. The brown box one has the Tyco logo and has a brown line around it. Mine has nothing. Just plain white. Is it from the Mantua Tyco era? The pictures are at the bottom since I was having some difficulties posting pictures. I finally got it figured out so the pictures are at the bottom!

A picture here would really help. Maybe try the HOseeker site and see if you can find your model in the old catalogs listed:

Thanks but, I'm looking for how the cases for the trolleys looked back in the Mantua era. There's these little words on the front that say "Made In USA" and the serial code.

And I use iPhoto to get my pictures and the forum doesn't let me post any pictures because it says it "timed out".

Here's the loco I'm talking about and it runs but very slowly and it growls loudly. I'm gonna take a look at the motor eventually. Anyway, it has no manufacturer on the locomotive or the case, the base is metal and the chassis is plastic. I just want to know what time period this is from.

Here's it's case and the words on the case say that it's made in America and some US patent.

I have that one!

The plastic case would have come in a rectangle cardboard sleeve when it was new. The sleeve was open on each end and had an oval cutout on top where the bumps from the case clasps would fit.

I got mine for Christmas in 1977. It is Tyco, but I don't remember what the sleeve looked like. I still have the plastic case, but the sleeve is long gone.

So that means it's the Tyco brown box era trolley. Ok, that was made between 1971 to 1982.

Yes, mine was definitely in the 70s and looks exactly like that one.

Mine still runs well, maybe you just need to grease the gears on yours? It does make a little groaning sound, but it always did, even when new.

I got mine for Christmas in 1977. My dad put it on the track under the tree and wrapped up a little box and put that overtop of it.

As we were unwrapping our presents, he turned on the transformer and the box drove around the track. Pretty cool memory.

Still have it and it goes on my Christmas platform under the tree each year.

That's what I'm planning on doing. I'm gonna oil it at some point. Also, the wheels are filthy.Well, it could be worse.

Maybe it is a red box era trolley. The case looks different then the brown box one does. The brown box has a line going around the middle area of it while mine doesn't.

I don't know why but I love it too. Everyone else I know who's seen it thinks it's garbage. I really do want to get it working nice again so I can prove them wrong so that's why I'm gonna oil it and clean the wheels. It'll be a fun little project!

I got the trolley for 10 dollars and it ran like garbage when I first got it. After cleaning it up a bit, it runs exactly like I said it did on the place where I put the picture of it.

I've got an AHM 4-4-0 too! Take a look at it in the AHM/Riverossi part of the forum and find the thread that says Riverossi 4-4-0 or something like that. It's close to the top of the first page.

Here's a picture of the Tyco Mantua trolley case.

And here's the brownbox Tyco trolley case.

Which one do you think mine is?
I got these two pictures from the internet.

I found that through a little socket on the base of the locomotive there is a plastic gear. Does that mean it's from the red box era or did the brown box era engines have it too?
