While browsing on the Walthers website, I was in for a surprise. Previously, Life-Like had only offered its conventional Code-100 track in brass (some of it was still available as late as 1993) and steel (since the mid-1980s I think). Even when they had nickel silver Power-Loc track from 1998 to a few years back, their conventional track was still only offered in steel.

But now things have changed a bit.
I found out that Life-Like from Walthers is now offering their Code-100 conventional track in nickel silver as well! All the usual conventional track products they've had, including curved terminal rerailers, lighted bumpers, etc. are now available with nickel silver rails! It also costs a bit less than Atlas's track, from what I see.
Even their packaging for this new nickel-silver Code-100 line is different, no longer using the same card design they've been using since 1991:

This double oval expansion set is 32 dollars, and is a bit cheaper than buying the same stuff from Atlas. In fact, Life-Like also now offers terminal joiners as well, probably to compete more with Atlas's Code-100 line.

I'm thinking of maybe trying out one of their nickel silver lighted bumpers to see how they are. The only flaw I know with conventional Life-Like track is the flimsy joiners included, and they are crimped on making it a little tricky to replace damaged joiners.

Whatever the case, I think it's a good idea Walthers had, as I still prefer nickel silver track over steel and brass anyways.
(It seems to have been a while since Walthers introduced something new in the Life-Like HO product line!)
