Here's one you won't find sealed new in a box - a scratch-built 1950s Whataburger. if you don't know what a Whataburger is, you've never been to Texas

We have a local chain in the area where I live called Whataburger. Not the same company of course. I have heard of the one in Texas though, I believe.

I've been to Texas and I still don't know what a Whataburger is. I don't think they have them in the Big Bend country.

scsshaggy - I never heard of them either until I met my wife in 2007 who is from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. When I was first down there I wondered what the heck is this Whataburger place? She took me to one and it is kinda like crack cocaine to me so I was inspired to build one for the layout. I have to admit I did not know where big Bend Country was, I looked it up and no, you probably won't find a Whataburger down there

A very professionally done job. Did you scratch build this? I live in El Paso, Texas, and the city is rotten with Whata Burgers. Iconic as McDonald's. Sorry, I am not a WB fan, but your skill is exceptional!

Yes scratch-built from sheet styrene and of course some added details like the trash cans and picnic tables. I actually found a set of blueprints online for the sign and scaled it down. And, I just realized it needs some people too! My wife - a TX native - did not quite understand my love affair with WB either, nor does her family

Love that scratchbuilt whataburger. At first glance I thought it was a long-lost addition to the Life-Like fast food restaurant series!
Heres my BOTW, a smalltown usa kit that I bricked and boarded over some of the windows on, and painting the whole thing, to give an impression of lots of run down painted brick buildings found in urban areas

Hey Jerry WV, Looks like that Whataburger has a pretty good rep by the seemingly "well healed" customers arriving in their concours quality vintage automobiles! The Whataburger building don't look too shabby either.
Hey ChessieRR, I'm diggin' those brick buildings. They seem to hold lots of possibilities. My BOTW is a brick building; an engine house I've been going over and finally got it to the point where it was standing this afternoon. This was an eBay "pre-built" "bargain"; ha! Regarding the photos below; the first photos are of the building as I received it, and the latter photos are from this afternoon.

| Steven "Metalsmith", that Tyco station is super. Did you paint it and detail it out? Great people as well; just a great scene. Did you paint the people? I recognize the one guy with the suitcase in his left hand and his arm outstretched around his lady friend as a Model Power guy. Looks real good. I'd love to see more photos. Thanks. Barry

The depot is bone stock factory Tyco, the only additions are the platforms. The set came with a billboard that I changed to an Elvis poster for some strange reason. The figures are a mix of Preiser and others and some are hand painted but it has been so long ago I cant recall which ones. Thanks for the compliments and the support.

Hey Ben, I dig it! Every once in a while when I'm at the local train shop and looking through some of the cases I come across the "artist and his model" . . . so where on your layout did you use those figures Ben? Ha!

American Model Builders Wood engine house based of the Illinois Terminal design. Hands down the hardest damn thing I've ever built. Wood was flimsy, took long time to set up in place, and had so many aspects to it. But I gotta say, as much of a pain that it was, it came out great and has a special purpose!
I've built a Walthers 3 stall locomotive shop, a Walthers machine shop, an Atlas 3 stall roundhouse, a model power 2 stall engine house, and scratchbuilt my own 2 foot long Seybold Locomotive Works but I was not expecting so much work.
I got this as Christmas present specifically to build and house my Folsom Prison #1 in, as well as another HO replica 0-4-0 model, the Silverbend 202.
Since this photo the roof sheets for the main portion are on but not glued down. Why glue the roofs down? Can't access the engines or detail the inside
I buy, repair, and collect http://scvr.weebly.com/ http://seyboldlocomotiveworks.weebly.com/ http://www.youtube.com/user/TheDeputation?feature=watch Hyde.
