A few weeks back I found this board and all this track on craigslist. More track than I have room for, but enough to pull off some things I've been wanting to do (passing track, more yard space) . . .

My existing layout was 48 X 60 and tucked in a small corner of my attic studio; a challenge for the 0-5-0 switcher to climb over when necessary . . .

The new layout is in the same attic room, but it is now "chair height" and 54 X 72. And I have the passing track and a few yards; one for an engine shed (when that gets acquired or built) . . .

I had wanted to do 24 inch radius curves on the main line, but ended up doing 22 inch so there would be more room outside the main line to do things.

So . . . we'll see what develops over the next couple of years, hey?

That looks like the beginnings of a pretty nice layout. If I may focus on a detail that's a bit off-topic in a discussion of the whole layout, that 4-8-0 looks really classy in basic black.

Nice piece of trackage you acquired. Nice 47-53 AD Chevy truck too, correct? Craigslist is good for a few things, I've acquired 3 lots of HO off it over the years, and some great deals as well. Looks like you have a solid foundation for future operations there.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, it's amazing how long it takes to get things together; even when you have a lot of hours. It's a 50 3/4 ton. Was my daily driver for a quarter of a century. Use to day dream how it would be all cleaned up . . . it's a pretty good ride to the dump, or to get supplies, or to cruise on an exceptional summer night.
